Suggestion: When a trial runs out on server install, give a better error message

I just had a minor freakout when my sagetv server service wouldnt startup with a very generic:

"Windows could not start the SageTV service on Local Computer.

Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion."

Nothing in the logs, etc...in the future would be good to put something in the eventlog at least to prevent people from doing what I just did (a completely unncessary rollback to last nights backup).

Some of the error messages have been improved recently and some haven't. SageTV often rings alarm bells which will just go away if you give it a chance. I now wait at least a day before doing anything drastic like reinstalling and the problem always goes away.

I second this. I spent the last hour updating Java, un/reinstallting SageTV, playing around with service settings, only to stumble on this thread. Thanks WhiteWhisker, but Sage please improve the error messages.

Something needs to be done about this. I don't know what happened but my license got invalidated or something. But I wasn't getting the prompt to re-enter my key (I even uninstalled sage and re-installed). Ultimately I had to log in as a different user and try to open sage in order to get the prompt to re-enter my license key. At least there should be a way to force a license key update or check like there is with placeshifter keys.
