Need 5.1 HDMI Audio Help

Just set up a new surround sound system with a new receiver and am having troubles getting 5.1 sound from Sage. I am running win 7 with an NVIDIA 9500 GS with both audio and video running through HDMI. In the audio configuration in control panel says that the HDMI can only do stereo. However, I have the "allow AC3/DTS/WMA output box checked under the sound card's custom tab. I have AC3 filter set to "as is". My receiver doesn't seem to be seeing 5.1 in any of its sound modes.

Can anyone help?

Is AC3 Filter being used? in the config, choose to show the tray icon. then, when playing back material that SHOULD be 5.1, open up the config FROM THE ICON. Then, you will be able to see what is going on at the AC3Filter level. might lead to where the problem is.

By default, if a source is stereo, AC3Filter will NOT encode it to AC3, and send out just stereo PCM (Which would be better quality anyways).

I have tried both AC3 Filter and PDVD9. Sage says the source material is 5.1 (and it was proper 5.1 before I got my new receiver and just used analog). I tried many different settings in AC3 Filter. I believe I am supposed to have SPDIF checked (even through it's HDMI) and I have tried the "as is" setting and the Dolby settings.

No matter what, AC3 Filter is showing stereo input and stereo output. Not sure what it should show in passthrough mode (since there is no decoding going on).

If as-is is showing only a stereo source, than something before AC3 Filter is stopping it from seeing the real AC3 stream (there is probably another decoder in front of AC3 Filter in the graph, and it is decoding the AC3 and passing Stereo PCM to AC3Filter. Try turning off PCM on the AC3Filter System Properties, and see if AC3Filter still loads on playback.

Also, try rendering the file in GraphEdit, and see if anything is being put in front of it.

Ok, I figured it out. I think it was some of the Arcsoft filters that were causing problems. I set their merit extra low. My receiver says it's getting dolby digital now. Perfect.
