UPS + HD-PVR
Does anyone have reason to believe that the non-sine wave output
of a UPS affect the stability of the HD-PVR? I seem to be having more lock up problems after adding the UPS. Thanks Ken |

Not really, because "non-sine wave output" UPS's only output non-sine waves when they're running on batter power, so as unlikely as it would be to be a problem (the waveform) it would only be an issue when the power's out.

That depends on how well the HD-PVR Power Supply filters out higher order harmonics from the steps in non-sine UPS'. Those things can wreak havoc on the proper function of sensitive electronics. We have equipment where I work that flat refuses to have any accuracy at all unless it's tied to a wall outlet (no welders nearby) or a pure-sine UPS.

Yeah, I was wondering that as well - don't some UPS's put out far higher quality sine waves than others (I'm thinking APC double conversion) ?

I have two UPS units in my rack, one for the computers, routers, and switches, and a second AV-grade unit for the receivers and amps.
