Recent CSI w/ Special Effects - Settings Question
Just curious - CSI recently did a an episode that opened with a firefight at their station house. It looked like a combo of "bullet time" as popularized in The Matrix and "time slicing" as done in Swordfish when the suicide vest went off on the woman hostage as she was fleeing the bank.
Now, as far as I know, CBS does 1080i, which is what my ATSC OTA tuner grabbed it at and razor's resolution plugin reported it at. But, of course, it looks terrible - judder, aliasing, etc. even with an ATI 4650 card sending a 1080 60p signal to a Toshiba LCD HDTV set.
This is not a bug or anything. I'm just curious what one would have to do to make that scene look smooth and correctly anti-alias it. I am assuming some sort of advanced deinterlacing, 60p upsampling, and/or advanced anti-aliasing.
I've tried fiddling with decoders and the Catalyst Control Center but I can't really improve the picture. I can't say my HD200 did a better job at it either, and it is outputting to a slightly older HDTV that only accepts 60i, so I am guessing that it is not transcoding that signal at all.
Just wondering if anyone has fiddled with a good setup for making the best of 60i stuff. My OTA ATSC 720p and HD PVR stuff look great. Even my analog cable that my PVR-USB2's grab looks as good as it's going to.
Always looking for that last little tweak...
