Feature Request: One-Time Favorites

Lately, I've taken to going through the list of upcoming movies, and choosing a few of them to record. The problem with this is that the only way to do this practically is to choose one of the future aiings, and set it to manually record. This is okay, but it's hard to tell if you are going to be creating a conflict in doing so. The other option is to create a favorite for the movie, which would allow sage to choose the future airing that has the least impact. The obvious downside of ths is the cluttering of the favorites display. Basically, I'm looking for the 'Record on of the Future Airings' to do just that. I'd like it to add a favoritem bottom of list priority, and once it gets a completed recording, the favorite is removed.

Any thoughs on this?

Writing a plugin that monitors for this situation and does what you want shouldn't be too hard.
  • Monitor your favs periodically
  • If a fav is a category based fav and the category is 'Movie' and the fav has at least one airing stored on disk (i.e. recorded) then mark the recording as manual and delete the fav

There's probably some edge case considerations and some other error checking I'm not thinking of at this exact moment, but basically that's the procedure. Writing a simple runnable class or writing an app on top of Jetty to do this kind of thing shouldn't be too much effort, if you know Java. Alternatively, if you're familiar with Studio then something can probably also be done.

Yeah, i realize a plugin could do it, there's a few different ways to accomplish it... still, seems like it would be best as a built in part of the favorites.

I give an enthusiastic thumbs up to this feature request also. Can't tell you how many times I would have used this.

I've only been using Sage for a couple of months now, but I've already encountered times when this would be very useful. Instead of building it into the favorites, however, I'd prefer to see it added as a manual recording option. For example, when making a manual recording you could choose to record "this exact airing" or "any airing" etc.

Unfortunately, I think the only way it will work well (as far as avoiding conflict's and such) is through the favorites. Still, if it is enough to add a favorite, then remove it once complete, you're not really cluttering up the favorites system.
