Analog TV Card for Windows 2008 and which edition?
I am having a problem with a PVR500 card on windows 2008 R2. It seems to be a problem with over 4gbs of ram (I have 8).
Given the following: Besides the PVR500, my nephew also has a ATI theater 550, a Happauge PVR250 and 3 other TV cards that he said will not work in Vista. Will any of these work in Windows 2008? I am willing to buy new TV cards. I have a license to any edition of Windows 2008 but not to windows 2003. I must use a windows server for the main sagetv server and plan to buy extenders if SageTV works for me I need at least 2 analog coaxial tuners. I guess I am flexible on removing ram if it is required but prefer not to. This is being installed to a rack computer with limited slots. There is 1 open PCI (PCIx) slot and a PCIe slot can be opened for it. Given that, which TV card would you recommend buying that definitely works with SageTV on Windows 2008, doesn't matter which edition (including the xenon a64). Thank you! |

I doubt if you'll find any TV tuner card certified to run on Windows 2008 or Windows 2008 for any of them either. Windows 2008 isn't really designed for multimedia. Search the forum for some registry tweaks and modifications that will get your tuner cards working on 2008. Most of the older Hauppague cards have an issue with 4 or mor GB of RAM.

Thank you Gerry! I've had a crash course in the BDA hack for 2008. I have been manually trying different registry edits to try and get the PVR500's 2nd tuner recognized in SageTV and not having any success.
Could you (or anyone that knows) list some specific cards that are reported to work in Windows 2008 with SageTV with the BDA hack and more than 4gbs of ram? Preferably one that has more than 1 analog tuner on it? Thanks! |

I ran Server 2008 for a brief period of time before deciding it just wasn't worth all the aggrevation in getting tuners to work. (Mind you I never actually tried to make it work, but I read enough for it to scare me into giving up).
You might want to check out this post on Wind2008WorkStation. I think you've probably seen this post of MSFN bought thought I would link it anyway. Good luck!
