EVR+Vista64Ultimate+ATI4890 Issues

Its not terrible, and doesn't seem to happen on all videos playing, but
using EVR, the OSD flickers on /off a ton. . .

I used to always use overlay, but then I saw how good EVR looks on my setup, and I'm on a mission. . .

Using overlay everything seems to work fine. . .

Using VMR9, i get alot more hiccups with video playback, but generally works.

I'm also using PowerDVD8 (so Cyberlink decoders for H.264 and MPEG2).

I saw some threads on the net about needing to install the "Complete AVIVO Package", but that appears only for XP 32-Bit, and I'm pretty sure the latest Vista 64 drivers take care of all that stuff. . . (but not postive)

Things I can try? Thoughts? Links to other threads or download?
Please Help. . .

9.9 is the latest and what I am using. I'm not seeing your issue.

I just updated too 9.9. . .

Now H.264 always works just fine, but MPEG2 / DVD, you still see the OSD flicker, not is quickly or annoyingly, but it still does it. . . .

Anything else I can try, is it possible to have Sage use Overlay only for MPEG2/DVD?
Should I try and download another MPEG2 decoder pack or something?

I believe the video renderer (overlay or vmr7/9) is one or the other. I wouldn't try decoder packs......except for this one- AntiPack I would remove any packs you might have installed before and follow the guide for the AntiPack. Unless you have a paid version of PowerDVD 8 or 9 or TMT 2 or 3.

Yeah I have the paid version of Cyberlink/PowerDVD 8. . .

Hmm so should I give Anti Pack a try. . .

VMR 9 does work. . . just everyonce in a while live video seems to hiccup more often. . . although i think that is more with me not setting the delay_to_wait on the HD-PVRs to a higher value. . .

But yeah its still there with EVR. . . anything MPEG2, and also strangely enough FlashVideo (coming from the PlayOn plugin stuff). . which also means its not something weird with SageMC (since the PlayOn plugin while playing video is actually using the default theme).

Is EVR part of DirectShow/DirectX 10? Maybe I need an update there?

It's always a good idea to keep the DirectX stuff current. But it's a balancing act to have the right version of the video drivers in place. Many time the latest version breaks something. You may also want to check if the vendor for your card also have drivers available. Sometimes they are a little different or enhanced.
EVR should be better than VMR9 on Vista and also Win7.

I'll check for directx updates and try antipack (didn't have a chance too over the weekend). . .

I now have the latest drivers for my card. . . so that should be fine. . .

Btw, you don't see the OSD flicker with MPEG2 or dvds using EVR?

What decoder are you using?

I suppose it might get better with windows 7. . .

No flicker on either mpeg2 or DVDs with EVR.

Using Windows 7 RTM.

Cyberlink PowerDVD 8.

Search the ATI site for any hot fix or patches for your video card.

Update:

Well I have even installed Windows 7 (which I love btw), but still the same issue. . anything mpeg 2 seems to flicker using evr and Cyber Link or Sage Decoders.

Overlay works fine, VMR 9 works fine.

The machine is a clean install save for sage and all its plugins. . .

Any other thoughts? I submitted a bug to the sage folks. . .we'll see what that'll do. . .

I just rebuilt 2 PC's over the weekend with the release of Win 7 Pro. I have also now seen the flickering of the OSD which only happens with MPEG2 and EVR. I'll be submitting a bug also.
