new server time

I am currently using a sempron 1.8 running xp with one pvr150 to capture from a starchoice dsr505.I am looking to add a second 150 which I have and purchasing an HD-PVR. I use this computer as server to feed an hdx-100 on a Sony KFE 42a10. I am looking for recommendations on hardware/ a new system that I could add the above. I would also like to have the ability to comskip the HD-PVR files. I have purchased a usb uirt for the channel changing. My current set-up works quite well, I feel the need for HD. I am a novice when it comes to computers and am totally lost on Dual Core/ Core2 Duo/Quad core. I also would like to know if there are any operating systems incompatible with the pvr150.Any help would be appreciated.

Dave

well, for just recording and serving up vids to your extender, your current system will work just fine. The only thing you seem to want that it won't really be able to handle is the comskipping of the HD-PVR files. (well, it will do it, it will just take a while). While it is tempting to upgrade your system to be able to do this, there is also the option to instead run the comskip process on another computer you might have (perhaps your normal desktop is faster), or even run it on both computers.

Fuzzy,

Thanks for the input. I might give it a try with the sempron and see what happens. Does anyone have an idea how much time it would take to comskip a 1hr HD-PVR file with a 1.8 sempron? How much of an improvement could be expected going to a dual core/ quad core.
