Intelligent recording decisions

Hi all

Looking into a multi tuner setup at the moment but i have a quick question regarding the inteligent recording.

Being based in the uk i will be using the XMLTV plugin will this still allow me to use the feature? or is it based on the US EPG data?

Also reagrding series recordings i understand that my XMLTV data will not allow me to record only new episodes of a series but if i have already recorded an episode, watch and deleted it will the software not record it again?

thanks
Mike.

Yes, IR will record stuff based on genres or actors you like, and avoid stuff you dislike.

Once you watch a show, it should never record it as a favorite again.

Whether or not a watched show ever gets recorded again depends on whether your guide data contains a unique Show ID for that show. If it does not have a unique ID, SageTV cannot tell whether another airing is the same or not & records it anyway.

ok, ive installed the current v2 beta and have had IR enabled for the last few days, i have set up various favourites etc

up to now no IR recordings have been made, is this becasue i am using XMLTV data?

also are they flagged in somw way , for example favourites seem to be white, manual recordings red etc

can anyone confirm they get IR recordings with XMTV data? thanks

See Sage Recordings - what do colors, text and borders mean? The colors are described there & also in a thread that one points to.

that makes more sense now i went to 'view upcoming recording schedule' and there are some programs listed with no border (ie IR recordings) they are from a few manual recordings that i watched a few days ago

so it does seem to be working after all its just not got round to recording one yet

thanks
Mike

IR seems to use quite a few things to base its decisions, only some of which are available in XMLTV: channel, genre, actors, program name... It uses the programs that you have already watched -- or patially watched -- as a basis for this info.

The problem is for UK XMLTV, using the rt grabber, there is no genre info, and you will only get actor info if you run the grabber in --slow mode, and use the XMLTV plugin modified by MrManson that imports actor info.

If you go through the TV guide and set a few of the programs that you like as 'watched', then you may find that IR records them in the future...

thanks for thart ive updated the plugin and i now get actors etc

i have read that the xmltv program is able to grab categories using uk_rt but it is currently disabled in the xmltv program hopefully it will be enabled soon

would this need an update to the plugin as well?

I have posted a patch to tv_grab_uk_rt to enable category grabbing... You will probably need to wait for it to be incorporated into the XMLTV Win32 release to use it...

The plugin will not need to be changed -- it already imports categories if they are there.
