Remembering position in DVD Playback from Hard Disk

I'm just starting with SageTV. I've bought the SageTV server software and a HD-200. So far so good.

One thing that seems odd is that SageTV does not remember the last position watched when playing back a DVD copied to the hard disk.

SageTV remembers the position in ripped DVDs and in recorded TV shows (ie stop watching, watch something else, comeback to the first show and it starts from where you left off) but not for DVDs copied to the hard disk.

I couldn't find anything on the FAQ on this. There were a few forum comments but they were referring to older SageTV versions.

Am I missing something or is this a deliberate design feature?

Ben.

I have the same problem. I don't have an answer for you but at least you know know that you're not the only one experiencing this.

As do I. I submitted a bug report to Sage six or so months ago and got back the canned "we'll look into it" response. It really makes using ripped DVDs much less useful than it should be.

I'm using Sage 6.4, by the way.

I've had this problem for a long time. It seems sometimes it remembers but most times it doesn't. Its only the case for DVDs.

Thats strange because when I play ripped DVDs, I don't have this issue... It always ask me if I would like to resume for the previous point. (or whatever) What are you using to rip? Is it just the movie or the whole DVD? Are you creating a mpg file or keeping the DVD structure?

The more information you give to us helps the community jump in. (other than it just doesn't work)

I use DVD-Fab to rip. Both options whole movie and movie only seem to work for me. I maintain the DVD directory structure and store all DVDs across a networked share mounted drive.

What is the difference between a ripped DVD and a DVD copied to hard disk? All of my DVD's are ripped to hard drive with no issues. In fact I was just watching a movie, moved to another room and started watching it again and it left off right where it was.

Also using DVDFab HD.

I'm having problems with the DVDs where the whole DVD structure is copied to the hard disk (with no compression). SageTV is fine remembering it's position with the DVDs that have been compressed into a single file.

I'll try DVD-Fab to copy the whole DVD structure to see if it makes a difference.

Thanks

Ben.

I've never had Resume do more than start the movie at the beginning on either of my extenders. Instead of wading through the trailers and menu.
