Running SageTv Service on WHS after reboot?
If the WHS is running Sage and is powered down, will Sage Service start after WHS is started or will I need to logon to allow the service to start.
if it will not Start before a logon, is there a way to set it up to do this?

By default the SageTV services should be set to Automatic. After a reboot or a power off it will start on its own. That is why you run it as a service. You can also set the service to restart on failure of just the service itself.

The short answer is yes, anytime the WHS machine reboots, it will automatically start the SageTV service. Even if you have manually turned the service off using the WHS Console prior to rebooting.
I don't even think there is an option to permanently turn off the Sage service (at least not easily) using WHS. It is designed ONLY to run as a service in that OS. There isn't the little Sage Control program for example that allows you to turn on and off the service like there is with the regular windows version. (Obviously you can change the Sage Service using Computer Control -> Services program and set it to "manual", but that takes a little effort and isn't a normal WHS function).

FWIW, that program actually is there, but you have to install java to use it. Found it before I knew that you could control sage from the console.
One thing i noticed is that the console doesn't allow you to specify a user like the service control does. I can't remember why it was necessary on my xp sage server (only thing I can think of is comskipping on a client, I have no network storage or tuners), but it is necessary on whs?

Sage will start up automatically on reboot. I don't know what happens if you shut down Sage in the console and reboot though. Does it remember the previous state and maintain it on reboot?
Try it out and see what happens. |
