ok ready to go...almost

Well, I just bought a pvr-usb2 to go along with my pvr-250 and I am about to d/l trial. But I imagine I can not d/l v2 beta until after I purchase 1.4, so here is my last pre-sales question...Is version 2 going to be free to people who paid for 1.4?

Yes. Functionality of 1.4 is similar though so do a last check with your system before. Just ignore the UI .

ok good

installed sagetv fine. Some questions?
1. On the system requirements page, it does not say AIW is supported. But it allowed me to set it up as a source? Can I use it or no?
2. The Sgae properties file: in the directions for adding recording qualities it gives two lines
Quote:
seeker/recording_qualities/VCD=VCD,224,44100,15200000
Then
Quote:
mmc/python2_encoding/VCD=videobitrate=1520000|width=352|height=240|audiobitrate=224|outputstreamtype=11|audiosampling=44100
But in the actual prop file. I do not see the second line for any of the preset qualities. Do I put the second line in?
3. Can I d/l a properties file somewhere with more recording choices?

Well for 1, I'm not sure why Sage even lets you see it since it won't work.

For 2 and 3, I'd do a search of the forums, while I don't know of any properties files you could d/l I know a number of people have posted both their own custom recording qualities and discussions about setting them up.

I tried to search

Found a couple of threads but no example of exactly what I should do.
I have pvr-250 and pvr-usb2 and want to create a couple of custom settings. using 1.4

An example of one I want to add would be:
VIDEO:
352x480
29.97
1.4mbps - 2.5 VBR
Audio:
48000
224

Also, where is the setting for IBP frames? Or is it a standard setting that can't be changed?

so just for clarity

Quote:
seeker/recording_qualities/VCD=VCD,224,44100,15200000
mmc/python2_encoding/VCD=videobitrate=1520000|width=352|height=240|audiobitrate=224|outputstreamtype=11|audiosampling=44100
So BOTH lines have to be included. This is the question I have been asking and has not been answered.

From the hpquality.txt file, I am gathering that "YES" they both need to be in there.
HOWEVER, in my properties file, I do not see ANY of the second lines for any of the qualities...
This is why I am confused. Also, if I do in fact need to put the second line(mmc Line) in, then do I put it directly below the first line (Seeker line)?

I can imagine that I seem like an idiot at this point, but I just don't understand why the hpquality.txt file says to put the line in and the actual properties file does not contain them.

P.S. I am trying to cross over from BTV and like what I see so far, But to not have a GUI for creating custom recording qualities is just plain silly.

The assumption is that the included recording qualities are all you need where in BTV the choices are pretty cruddy. There are lots of choices by default and they probably do cover all bases but I would like to see it in the UI too.

Must just be a learning curve

BTV doesn't have all the choices I need. I wanted VCD and that is one reason for thinking about switching to SageTV. However, BTV is easier to create custom settings than Sage is. Again probably just learning curve.
However, I need to add VCD and a dvd compliant setting that allows up to 6 hours onto dvd-r. I have alot of shows that are almost complete and want to keep it the same throughout.
So I just need to add two custom settings.
So could somebody "please" tell me exactly how I can accomplish this?
vcd(which is an example in the hpquality.txt) &
dvd(352x480, VBR 1.4mbps peak 2.8mbps, 15GOP, 192, 48khz, mpeg layer2, stereo.

Do I need to put both lines in properties file?

As for the comparison to BTV. From what I am reading, I know I am going to like SageTV better. But it looks like the learning curve is going to be a little tough.
Sorry about the "SILLY" comment. I am just getting fustrated because it seems like my question is not geting directly answered.

Yes-both lines go into the .properties file. From the readme:

For SageTV; you need to add the same property you did with SageRecorder; but you also need to add another property that includes additional bitrate information. It's format is as follows:

So for your vcd add:
seeker/recording_qualities/VCD=VCD,224,44100,15200000
mmc/python2_encoding/VCD=videobitrate=1520000|width=352|height=240|audiobitrate=224|outputstreamtype=11|audiosampling=44100
