Thanks for that doc.

I wonder if you (or anyone else) can help me understand this a little more. I seem to be getting pretty confused with the whole thing.

If I add a new source, sage creates a .frq file for that source. If I then copy and past new settings into the frq file, nothing seems to change in the lineup when I look at it in the channel editor in sage. I cant seem to change the channel number from the frq file.

Am I doing something wrong?

Also, just so you know, I want to use the EPG that is sent over the air (with freeview).

That makes things a little more complex and I've never manually changed a frq file when its set to use over the air EPG.

I use the Birtles grabber which is free along with Stephane's importer. I don't like paying for things though I did donate for the importer.

Someone else may know how to do what you want. I'll have a play this week on my spare PC as I'm on holiday. I'm a connector missing to get it up and running and I know I have it somewhere but I'll be darned if I can find it

Thinking about it - can you not manually edit your frq file, delete the source, re-add it, tell it to remove mappings and not do a scan. Then tell it you don't want to use an EPG source. Does that not work?

EDIT: OK, I see your point. I don't know how to get it working that way. The channel scan options don't allow you to take a previously setup frq file and use that, unless there's something I'm missing too!

ScanChannelsBDA for Sage

In the past Ive used ScanChannelsBDA-UK to get the channel details whenever there was a need to update the .frq files. Unfortunately for some reason version 2.6.0 failed to work on my server. Searching for an updated version, I found this site which has a link to 2.7.0. This didn't work either but theres also a link to the source code there so I downloaded it and updated the code so it now works with my machine. At the same time I added some other features to it:

* It now finds TV channels wether or not they are currently transmitting (so you no longer need to do 2 or more scans at different times to get all the channel details)
* It dumps all the discovered channels into the ScanChannelsDBA.log file in the same format as you find in the SageTV .frq files. These are put into LCN order. NOTE: In case its important, this exe records the actual frequency that the channel was discovered on and not the publicised frequency (i.e. the bit where ScanChannelsBDA does the +-166khz, this version records frq:578166000 instread of frq:578000000). Its not had any detremental effect on my servers tuning but YMMV.

Heres the output from my last scan:

Code:

Heres the executable and source code (usual caveats about run at own risk etc. apply). Hopefully this is going to save people some time in the future when the channel ordering changes again / new channels get added.

I have decided to use Stephans import tool instead.

I have had the paid for version for a while, but I was initially overwhelmed by the interface so didn't ever bother using it.

I think that I have now managed to get it set up correctly though. Only issue that I have now is my channel logos don't match - so I have to go in and alter all the names. Boo.

Thanks for the help though with the frq's

Wow, thanks for that, brilliant. Will make this stuff much easier. Great job!

Anyone else started missing recording since the retune?

Im getting hundreds of "recording missed due to capture device failure" messages in system messages.

Also hundreds of "halt detected in recording" messages as well. Sometime sage can reset the tuner often if cant and I miss the recording.

Hmm!

Wonder if my tuners are toasted!

Ive got an ATX style motherboard in a BTX style case (pci/x slots at the top, cpu at the bottom) and its kind of warm round the tuners!

Awesome thanks very much for doing this.

I found that the actual frequency didn't work for me - I reverted to the scanned and all was good.

But all the raw data is there - fantastic.

I tried to use SageTV to rescan - and things have improved there - but it still screwed things up and seemed to be using the frequencies of my disabled logical channel 15 it had scanned instead of my enabled original logical channel 15 during the preview and recordings.

Glad its of use. Over the weekend I'll try and add some options to it (output real/scanned freq., assign sequential/transmitted channel numbers, that sort of thing). That is I will do if Real Life (TM) doesnt get in the way.

I think his failure was due to a failed card:-

I have aslo been getting these problems using Pontop Pike. But to be honest I only really noticed them since Sage added System Messages. Just put it down to my system as I need to do a rebuild of my server soon. So who knows how long this has been happening.

I have noticed this problem shows more when another recording has started on another tuner. Every Monday when the Gadget Show finishes and Flash Forward starts I see this problem. Both are set as favourites and over lap by 5 mins. And only seemed to show since the retune. This problem may just be my set up and will not know until a rebuild.

Disaster for SageTV in Granada Land 9pm 4NOV 09

Cannot get any BBC channels on SageTV 6.6.2 after BBC retune.
Why cannot Sage scan all UK frequencies like other softwares . Can we have a transmitter description which says scan all channels 21 to 69 .

The system is completely B**gared .

Any ideas out there.

Add this channel:

Code:
frq:802000000;band:8;
to the Winter Hill section of your PredefinedDVBT.frq file and rescan. There are actually two sections for Winter Hill, the second of which is presumably transmitter B. I added it to the first one in the file. Don't know if it matters though.
