Edit recordings

It's really annoying to have to keep a whole show when I'm just interested in keeping a small part of it.

What do you use to edit SageTV recordings? Any good freeware available?

Does editing them mess up the info stored in the system? Or does STV automatically recognize the changed file length?

Should I save the edited part somewhere else, access it as a media file and delete the original?

Thanks!

Have you used the built-in Sage "Convert" function? You can choose a starting time and duration (thus saving only the part you want), and it saves the converted recording with the same name, info, etc. You can then delete the original, full-length recording.

Thanks! Didn't realize you could use Convert that way.

I guess the only limitation is that you can only edit out the beginning or end, not the middle. Or is there a clever way to do that, too?
