initial configuration trouble

Not sure if I have the right forum for this post - if not please point me to the right one.

I am having trouble configuring SageTV software. I am using COMCAST digital cable box as my source.

1 - moved my cable box from tv in living room to office where comcast modem and pc are.
2 - put splitter upstream of comcast modem. One output of splitter wired to cablebox, other wired to comcast modem (for highspeed internet).
3 - installed hauppauge 1600 card into PC
3a - connected cable box TV out to top connector on Hauppage card
4 - installed card's drivers
5 - configured irblaster - tested, works fine, ir blaster config can send tv channel to cable box which does go to that channel
6 - Ran winTV app and scanned channels - this prgm sees one channel: channel 3 (this is the channel that the cable box transmits on - coincidence?) Currently showing an international soccer game
7 - closed WinTV, started SageTV app
8 - SageTV starts initial configuration. Two choices for sources:
Hauppauge WinTV 418 Video Capture
Hauppauge WinTV 418 TS Capture
I have tried both of above, then run scan. Scan doesn't find any channels. Also, I don't see any activity on the IRBlaster - seems like SageTV is not controlling the Cable setup top box - seems like it would need to do that.

Any ideas?

thanks,
- Derrick

One more thing - seems from reading the doc like I need to program the IR Blaster as a 'Source' before I run the initial config - but the initial config runs automatically on startup until I get thru it. Am I caught in a catch-22 here? Or am I just not understanding how to configure the IR blaster before the initial configuration wants to run a scan for channels?

Also trying connecting the TV out from the Comcast Digital cable box to the 2nd coax connector down on the 1600 card - this is labeled 'ATSC Digital TV connector' which doesn't sound right except that I believe my set top box is Digital Cable, not analog cable. will post if I can setup input with this config.

Went back to top coax connector: TV Connector for cable - I hope this will work for digital.
No luck getting SageTV to control IRBlaster to tune cablebox - what am I doing wrong? I don't see anywhere in SageTV to configure this. WinTV can change channels just fine.

Ok, figured out the IRBlaster thing - needed to select using Cable box to tune channel - Doh! Should have seen that one! Anyway, IRBlaster now works great and I can view TV on PC. Woo Woo! Now need to get my HD-200's config'd.

Yikes! What a night! I setup the HD-200 wired on a 1gb connection and had stop and go video (more stop than go) and no audio! Turns out I had a bad ethernet cable - once I replaced that the problem went away, it looks ok now. Now will try wireless.

I don't see how I can make HD-200 work wirelessly - the D-Link dual band usb adapter needs to be configured: set ssid & set WPA security key. I don't see any option in the setup screens to allow this so, can't configure the adapter. If there is no way to configure the adapter then I think that means the HD-200 cannot be used wirelessly. Or am I missing something?

thx,
- Derrick

See the announcement forum for the HD200 beta firmware & the post about HD200 wireless networking, then see the beta forum for discussions about it. Using the supported USB wireless adapter, you will configure the wireless option in the HD200's standalone UI.

Thanks Andy. I decided to just bite the bullet and pull cables. I have gotten 2 tv's connected, and the HD-200's firmware updated. I have two remaining problems:

1 - SageTV doesn't change channel.
I downloaded the SageTV software before I got my Haupauge 1600 capture card. From what I can see from the troubleshooting notes I may need to:

de-install SageTV
de-install Haupauge software
re-install Haupauge software including IR blaster software
re-install SageTV.

Seems like I should be able to just de-install SageTV, then re-install it. Will try that.

2 - The HDMI connection from my HD-200's seems to work and then not work. First when I connected the first HD-200 up to set A, everything was fine. Then I connected the 2nd HD-200 to set B (a computer monitor with HDMI connector), I would get a SageTV splash screen for several seconds, then the screen goes blank and I see nothing. I tried swapping the HD-200's and at first the problem seemed to follow the 2nd HD-200, but now I have the same problem with both boxes on both sets. Set A has s-video in, so I tried that connection and it works fine. Set B only has HDMI, DVI and VGA - I can't get any signal on that set. Not sure what I could be doing wrong?
