Sloooowwww Navigation

I'm not sure if this is Hardware or Software but here it is:
My setup:
Sage TV HD Theater connected to Samsung DLP 50" w/HDMI and to Network via Netgear Access Point with Ethernet. Server in Garage is older P4 w/ 2 GHz 768 RAM with 1 TB external drive (has all music and video files) hanging off server via USB. When I navigate though my music files w/ Sage, it takes really long to get from folder to folder or just navigating through the music folders in general. I have Sage looking at just the FLAC folder as far as music, the same as I had my Roku Photobridge set up. The Roku rifled though the folders at lightning speed, very seldom hanging. Sage takes sometimes up to a minute to access a folder. Naving through the video folder is much faster but still not as fast as I would like, or as fast as the Roku naved though music folders. Of course the video folder is smaller (158 GB) compared to FLAC folder (270 GB). I wouldn't think that would matter. Once I get to the folder of my choice and play files, everything is fine. It's just getting there's the problem. Any advice or comments are appreciated.

I just thought of something that might be the cause of my problem. Every music folder has cover art and some of the art files are kinda large, some well over 100 KB. I don't think Roku loaded all those cover art files. My guess is this is the cause of the "Hanging". It's nice to have the cover art, but it's not worth it if it slows things down that much. You'd think that once all the files were loaded, it would no longer cause hanging, assuming Sage has enough RAM. How much RAM does Sage have?

Comments? Advice? Thanks.

Is the HD200 connected to a SageTV server, or are you using it on its own?

If using SageTV v6.6, then you should be sure you have updated the STV in Detailed Setup -> Advanced -> Check for STV update. There is a sticky about the recent STV updates in the Software forum. You should also increase the Java heap size on the server, if you haven't already done so.

If you are using the HD200 on its own, then you should be sure you are using the latest beta firmware - the sticky is in the Announcements forum; discussion in the Beta forum.

Both the STV & firmware updates have changes that can help speed up media browser response.

What are the dimensions of your thumb art? The compressed file size isn't as important as the actual image size. Smaller sized images will load faster & take less memory, allowing more to be loaded at any one time.

Thanks for the reply. Sage is connected to the network where it accesses the server. I'm using 20090702 0, which is the latest firmware to date. Software V6.5.18.1
I haven't figured out how to increase JAVA heap size.
Cover art sizes are anywhere between 200X200 to 800X800. A few even larger.

Use the latest beta firmware for the improvements I mentioned; see the announcements forum.

That is beta software. Use the latest v6.6.2 release; see my sig lines for a link to the download page. After upgrading SageTV, use the UI option I mentioned above to check for STV updates. Install the STV updates until it says there are no more -- I think there will be 2 updates.

See the registry setting in this post. I think the customizations forum's index has a link to a tool that can change it for you.

200x200 shouldn't be bad, but I would reduce the 800x800.
