stopping HD-PVR from creating files

Is there anyway to stop HD-PVR from creating files if you're just "watching" tv, as opposed to "recording" tv? I know that Sage is always in a record mode, but is there anyway to turn that feature off - if so, I haven't found it yet
thanks

There is no way to turn that off. It is fundamental to how Sage works.

yeah - that's what I figured. It eats a lot of temporary hard drive space. I guess I'll just have to free up 10 or 20 gigs somehow, in case I leave the last channel selected on a three hour program.

Does the HD-PVR combo just record the last half-hour of a channel it's been left on?

Sage frees up space as needed, you don't have to free anything manually.

Sage records shows, it doesn't use a buffer. This is completely independent of what tuner/encoder you are using.

so then what app is writing files with program names to my drive? I can watch them be created as it happens. And when the drive reaches capacity, there is no space left for sage to free-up, and then the HD-PVR becomes unhappy, likely crashing

You mean "programname-episode-#####-0.ts"? That's Sage.

Define "no space left for sage to free-up", and "HD-PVR becomes unhappy".

What drive are you using for your recordings?
What disk space rule do you have selected (Use All, Use Only, Leave Free)?
If Use Only or Leave Free, how much space do you have specified?
Do you have a bunch (all?) your favorites setup with Autodelete disabled?

Normally when Sage fills the drive, it starts deleting shows according to it's delete logic (usually live TV first, IRs, watched autodelete favorites, etc).

Keep in mind Sage won't automatically delete manual recordings. It will delete live TV, intelligent recordings (which the OP probably has off), and watched favorites. So, if you have lots of manual recordings, and your drive is nearly full, there might not be anything for Sage to delete.

But in which case AFAIK, Sage will pop up a message about being unable to free enough space. I'm not sure, I've never run into that particular problem myself.

Its been a while since its happened to me, but I vaguely remember Sage displaying error messages in the form of PlaybackException when it runs out of space. I think I've seen other, more informative error messages too, possibly preceding the playback exception popup. Someone might interpret that as Sage becoming "unhappy", or even as a sort of crash. That was a long time ago, and maybe Sage has improved the quality of error messages since then.
