Screen Saver MIA

I had an odd issue pop up. I have searched, but don't see anyone else reporting a similar situation. I have two HD200's, one is about 6 months newer than the other. Both have the same July firmware.

For some reason one of the all of a sudden stopped displaying on one of the extenders. It displays fine on the other. I even tried setting it to the Sage logo, but no luck. The screen save used to display on this unit, it just stopped sometime in the last few weeks.

I have tried restarting the server (XP w/ 6.5.19). The only other interesting this is that I am running SageMC (ver. 6.3.9). Sorry, I can't run the standard interface as it would blow my family's mind. I am a convert from Vista MC and started with SageMC day 1 which was over a year ago.

Anybody else see anything like this? Suggestions?

Update: I flashed to the latest version of firmware for the HD200 that is not screen saving and that had no impact.

Why did my post get moved here? Because I am using SageMC? If I test it with the standard UI and I still have the problem can it be moved back to the SageTV HD Theater forum? I don't think it is a SageMC issue since it is not happening on my other HD200, but I will try and elimintate the possibility when the family is not around.

I am suprised that I am the only one having this problem. Yes, I did search. I guess if it happens in the standard interface I can open a tech support ticket.

I had a terrible time finding my post. I probably don't visit here as often as I should. I usually find most answers to my questions in the main software forum, but I thought I was doing the right thing posting in the SageTV HD Theater forum.

As SageMC is technically unsupported by Support it is always recommended (in the FAQ and various posts) that you need to revert to the Default STV and test for your issue there. Also keep in mind you can set the screensaver settings from SageMC using the SageMC Setup button. But keep in mind you also have a button for SageTV settings that will basically bring up the default SageTV Detailed Settings. In here you also have a access to configure the screensaver. So there is potential to set it up one way and undo those settings the other way. The HD200's tend to inherit some of their settings from the server. If two HD200 are different then it is probably because they are set different somewhere.

As one of the SageTV Product forums states with bold text in its description: post in the customizations forum instead if any customizations are active.

Before posting outside the customizations area or contacting tech support about any issue, you should disable/remove all customizations -- this includes any custom Java code, not just STV changes. If any customization is in use, a post will almost always be moved to one of the customization forums.

You can easily find your own posts & topics using the links provided at the top of every forum page.

Thanks for the explanation. I also appreciate the advice about looking in both places. There might even be three places, because I found a place in the HD200 setup that had screen saver settings. I know that when you go into the detailed setup it reverts back to the standard interface and then switches back. On a similar note - and this is directed at Sage staff, I am very hopeful that your future development cycle will include a default interface overhaul that is much closer to the SageMC interface than the current default. I am sure there is a feature request forum out there I was supposed to post that to, but just something to think about.

Ok I woke up pre-dawn and I unloaded SageMC and the screen saver is still not working on HD200 #1.

I loaded the default Sage interface and set the screen saver to Logo and lowered the minutes down to 2 and waited..... then I started live TV, paused and waited..... Then I rebooted the extender and went into the setup on the extender before it connected to my server. I went into the setup there and set the screen saver to Logo and 2 minutes. Connected to the server (still in standard interface), double checked the screen saver settings and then waited..... nothing.

What am I doing wrong? What else can I do to get it going again?

Here is a little history. The extender that will not screen save is my first HD200. I used to screen save just fine. Then I purchased a second one a few weeks ago. Before purchasing extender #2 the firmware on #1 was the April release. The first thing I did with the new one was update the firmware to July. It was around this time that the screen saver stopped working on #1. So, like I said I updated #1 to the latest firmware and still no luck. Now, unloaded SageMC and rebooted, but no screen saver. Do I have to reset my server? There are not a lot of good times to do that as it will interrupt recording. I am running Sage as a service on the server and the whole reason I purchased extender number 2 was so I could move the server to my office and only have the second extender at the tv where the server used to be.

Should I consider downgrading to the April firmware? I would be comfortable (technically) doing that. Any other suggestions for my next step? Any idea would be greatly appreciated. It's not the end of the world (we all know that new screens don't need to be saved), just something the family enjoys.

p.s. I was trying the Logo screen saver instead of pictures, because I am up to about 550 pictures in my picture folder. I know that is not a lot, just trying to cut down on variables. I also tried pictures in the standard interface and they don't work either. Pictures do work on extender #2.... go figure.
