Mediacom and I want more HD
Well guys, I now have mediacom. I have been enjoying the few HD qam channels available, however, Find I want more HD. Can someone tell me is the firewire connection with the cable box still a viable option? If so what box should I be trying to get, Is there a specific model?

You will likely only get the same channels via firewire that you get via unencrypted QAM. I think your best bet is to get a set top box and an HD PVR.
Aloha, Mike

Really? I can't get to my subscribed HD channels thru the firewire? I thought that was the whole point of doing the firewire to the stb with sage deal.

There are firewire capture cards. Not sure if they are recognized as tuners though.

I dumped Mediacom a little over a year ago due to limited HD channels.
Anyway, to your question, most Firewire capture off of STB's will still only give you what is in the Clear as it pertains to QAM as already stated by MeInMaui. There is no requirement to open up your firewire to anything but what is available in ClearQAM. What really torks me about MediaCom in Des Moines is that we don't even have all of our locals in ClearQAM (CW, NBC 2 and others) are not available. If you want the few HD channels that Mediacom offers, you will need to go the route of an HDPVR. Edit: Wow, 3 responses within 3 minutes. Nice. Do we all really have nothing going on, on a Friday night?

anyone in Springfield, Mo know if there is any access with mediacom? I might consider a box though just to try to avoid using the IR.
