Future partner app?

It looks like this iPhone app is quite attractive, and now controls a Tivo. I wonder what it would take to get SageTV to work with it?

I have tried these types of apps but I think you are far better off using a remote with physical buttons.

i.TV is a pretty nice app. The Tivo control looks cool.

It would be great to have something like this for Sage. Apps like Intellimote, which I think is the kind of thing Wayner is referring to, have never really done it for me.

However, for anyone with an iPhone I highly recommend Touchpad Elite (I actually use Jaadu VNC, but it's pricey at $25). It's a VNC client that turns your iPhone into a trackpad. It's excellent for navigating around SageTV.

Best,
Chris

I think it's a great idea. But it has to be done in the right way.

Simply remaking the remote button controls on the iPhone's screen is lame. In that case, it's much better to just use a physical remote.

Instead, you have to take advantage of the features of having a large touch screen. Make it more like the Apple remote app, which makes it easy to browse, select, and play your media. I think they got it right when controlling iTunes on a computer, but wrong when controlling an Apple TV. Why make people scroll? Just display the options on the touchscreen and let me tap what I want.
