Yet another PVR app -TVedia

http://www.8dim.com/

It's fairly impressive, although they show their amateur status in a few areas.

The good:
1) Extensive support for the Xcard, including full color OSD/EPG. Impressive!
2) Nice SDK for extending behavior and look.
3) DVB support
4) Attractive, simple default skin

The mediocre:
1) XMLTV files for EPG and the EPG data has to be updated externally by the XMLTV software. This isn't hard, but EPG management should really be an internal function of the app

Anyway, not too bad. As far as I can tell, SageTV still beats TVedia (and everyone else as well) in pure PVR features, and as PVR is what I spend 99% of my time doing, Sage is still the clear winner for me. Tha solid Xcard support and SDK are compelling features, though.

Hmm, this does look very cool. I think sage could learn something from a few of these features. I love the bookmarks idea. I would also be great if Sage could save bookmarks for mpeg4 files like zoomplayer.

Very cool, thanks for sharing your find. Seems that competition in PVR's is healthy, provides alot of ideas and features which is good for all of us.

I don't think the OSD is full color. I think it's 256. This software is JovePlayer, which changed it's name just like Medio did.
Correct me if I'm wrong on the full color osd thing. It would be nice, cause that would make it possible on Sage, if we had the right people coding it in.

In another thread, sub commented along the same lines I have -- When using an Xcard, I believe the OSD uses 256 colors, converting down to that number on the fly. Things like picture viewing seem to be converting the image to a video stream that the Xcard then decodes & displays in full color.

I rarely just make things up off the top of my head. I'm just not that creative.

From their site (http://www.8dim.com/products/xcard.asp):
Quote:
TVedia is the only software on the market that fully supports SigmaDesigns XCard. It can not only playback media files using XCard, taking advantage of hardware based decoding to reduce the requirement of your PC speed when it's possible, it can also playback DVD with XCard, and display all on screen user interface with semi-transparent overlay through XCard. A patent pending OSD engine overcomes XCard's 256 color OSD restriction to display images with a full range of colors, so user interface is as vibrant as displayed on a 32 bit colored PC display.

Ahh, so for Still pictures, they are rendering the OSD for full color and sending it as an MPEG to the screen. Interesting.
