Unavailable Functions for HD-PVR in SageTV

So I was surprised to learn today that color calibration is not currently enabled/available for the HD-PVR (http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/show...7&postcount=11)

Is anyone else aware of any other unavailable features/functions for the HD-PVR in the current version of SageTV? I'd like to know what they are, if so before I make my final purchasing decision. Thanks!

You can't turn on/off the "bling" light. I think that's about it.

What's a "bling" light in SageTV and where is it located precisely?

There's a blue glowing light around the top of the HD PVR. Sage can't turn it on/off. It doesn't do anything, which is why people call it the "bling" light.

Actually, it's called that because it's labeled as such in the Device Settings in TMT.

Ah, I've never even run TME, apparently they have a sense of humor.

I don't know about other revisions of the HD PVR but in rev C2 the bling lights were on the same circuit as the cooling fan. So turning them off was a bad idea.

Ha!

Well, that's certainly not a show stopper for me. Just wanted to make sure there isn't anything else that might be a show stopper as far as purchasing SageTV. The lack of video calibration isn't by itself enough to keep from buying it but if there was something else of similar impact, I'd have to seriously re-evaluate.

Just do it. I love mine - especially with firewire channel changing set up.

Apparently not all C2s are equal. I had 2 of these and in both cases turning off the bling has no effect on the fan.The fan is still running.

Also the mentioned property to turn these off does not stem from TME. It belongs to the actual HD PVR Encoder filter. You can e.g. turn off the bling via these filter properties in Graphedit without the need to install TME.

There really isn't much for settings on the HD PVR:
  • Bling light
  • Color Calibration
  • Recording quality/bitrate

Of those Sage supports the most important one, recording quality adjustments. Color Calibration would be nice, but if most are like mine, it's quite good out of the box (as I posted in the other thread).

Does the colour calibration actually work at all (outside of Sage)? I tried to play around with that last night, but didn't see any changes. Could be that that UI is simply not used by the current driver.

Also, in addition to the Bling light you can also switch off the red recording light, though I'm not sure if that's actually useful.

I'm not sure what you're asking?

The SageTV color calibration is for the tuner, in SageTV. It is NOT enabled currently in any version of SageTV for the HD-PVR..

Videos that I record in SageTV via the HD-PVR, Live TV via the HD-PVR and videos played back in SageTV (e.g. x264, xvid, etc, regardless of source) are washed out, compared to my other video playback methods outside of SageTV. Seems like color calibration within SageTV would address this issue.

My choices for video renderer are: default, video overlay, VMR9, and EVR. I did not see any improvement switching from EVR to VMR9. I haven't tried the other two options as of yet.

What he is saying is that you also have access to those same color controls thru graphedit. But for him it didn't seem like that was working either. So it may not be Sage that is broken but the HD-PVR driver that has those color controls.

I think I was wrong on this one. I ran a test and disabling bling lights does not disable the fan.

That's right. My question was, if somebody was able to modify the colour settings outside of Sage.

I feel left out. My HD PVR does not have "bling" lights. I only have a blue LED on the front of the unit, nothing on the top.
