OSD on TV using PVR-350 TV-Out

Hello everyone,

I am new to the HTPC world and I am trying to set up my first box. After sonsiderable research, I decided to go with SageTV and an Happauge PVR-350 tuner card.

I have installed the PVR-350 and the WinTV2000 application works fine. I downloaded the SageTV 1.4.10 trial package and installed it. Sage works fine, however I do not get the OSD to appear on the TV using the TV Out capability of the PVR-350 card.

I have read countless posts in this forum about the OSD and TV-Out of the PVR-350, but nothing seems to fit my situation.

Is there any way to test the overlay capabilities of my specific card outside of SageTV? I'm trying to narrow down the cause of the problem to either a missed setting in SageTV, a bad PVR-350 card, a driver issue, or a motherboard/chip set issue.

Here is what I have:

Asus A7N8X Deluxe version 1.04 with BIOS upgraded to version 1.07 (latest version)
Windows 2000 Professional with Service Pack 4
Happuage WinTV PVR-350 in PCI slot 2
ATI Radeon 9100 Video card
SageTV trial version 1.4.10
Happuage drivers 1.8.22037 (from install CD)

While in SageTV, the OSD appears on the PC monitor, but not on the TV. If I access the Guide, the picture on the TV freezes until I return to viewing live TV. I haven't tried it with recorded content yet.

The WinTV32 application that came with the card, will display the channel number as a overlay on the PC monitor, but again, it does not appear on the TV through the TV-Out of the PVR-350.

Can anyone help me? I would like to get this working, hopefully it is something simple, and won't require a new motherboard.

Thanks for you help,

Randall

Randall,
Version 1.4.10 of SageTV does not support the OSD on the PVR-350, but the 2.0 betas do. The big problem that you will get into is when you mix your -350 with PVR-250s that have rev 16 versions of the encoder chipset.

Aaahhhh..... That explains it !

Thanks for your reply fidget !

Well, I’m sufficiently pleased with the trial version that I will immediately place an order for the licensed version. Then I’ll request the 2.0 beta. BTW, any word yet on when the 2.0 beta will become a production release version?

Regarding a multi-tuner setup, is it correct that if I add a PVR-250, it needs to be a version 15 board? Did I read somewhere this is a Hauppauge driver issue and they are working on resolving it? Could another PVR-350 be added?

Thanks again!

Randall

I believe that Hauppauge is working on fixing the problems with mixing chipsets, but my setups are all homogenous so I don't have a way to verify.

Also, my previous system was a VIA based one and had nothing but problems getting more thatn two tuners to work. Changing to an Intel 865 based system (which really hurt since I really prefer AMD) allowed me to have three PVR-250s. Since my system is finally stable (my PVR-350 is in a machine by itself), I haven't been reading the message boards to see which system configurations are the most stable.
