Direct wiring IR Blaster to STB Ext IR In

I'm getting a HD PVR tomorrow and thinking of the best way to do channel changing with a Motorola DCX3200 STB. Looks like the STB has a "EXT IR IN" socket.

Can I just directly wire the HD PVR IR Blaster out to the STB Ext IR In ? Seems like it should work if I can get the right cable.

Probably nit directly.. It depends on the signal levels it requires. An optoisolator circuit might be required to get that port to work. Unfortunately, I'm sure there is little hope in getting any tech docs on it's use.

Since it is designed to work with an 'IR Receiver Extender Cable', my guess is it expects a bare photo-diode to be connected there.. If that is the case, an optoisolator just might be all that is required.

Thanks Fuzzy, I guess I won't go down that path.
