SageTV installer doesn't keep service account settings

I have noticed whenever I run the latest SageTV installer to update my SageTV install, it resets the service user account back to LocalSystem (every SageTV installer has done this since I started using SageTV early last year). Since I don't update frequently, I tend to waste a lot of time on figuring out why certain features stopped working, until I realize the service user account was reset.

Since this is still happening with the latest build, I figured I would post about it, and hope it's just a bug which can be fixed easily (eventho I am surprised no one else is complaining about this). Can anyone else confirm they are seeing this too? Thanks!

Same problem here with SageTV WHS installer. It's been complained about before...just not very vigorously. Most people probably aren't using the SageTV Service with remote UNC shares or the NetFlix Watch Now loopback hack.

Maybe someone should start a poll on this topic too

You didn't mention which installer you ran, but I thought somewhere in one of the beta release notes was a mention about the Windows (not WHS) installer retaining these settings, or was I just dreaming that? I thought the plain Windows installer now retains the settings but the WHS installer doesn't. I just need the 'Allow service to interact with the desktop' check box to retain the check mark so my NetFlix loopback doesn't break each time I upgrade. There's nothing like having company over to show off the cool DVR features like NetFlix and then look like an ass when they see the WHS Desktop on the screen instead of the NetFlix movie

For the last several betas and the current release mine retained its settings. I am not using the WHS version. I believe that is the only version that still has this problem, but I could be wrong.

This was addressed in Beta Version 6.5.16:

"5. SageTV Service is no longer removed as part of the upgrade process. The upgrade to 6.5.16 will remove it; but after that it will remain which means all settings related to it will be retained. (i.e. enabled/disabled, login/password, etc.)"

See this post for the complete revision notes.

So, AFTER you've installed version 6.5.16 or newer, the NEXT time you upgrade your settings should stick.
