WHS Questions

I am having to rebuild the PC and was thinking of moving to Windows Home Server. but I have some questions:

1. Does my normal license for SageTV for Windows cover the WHS version as well?
2. I can't find the documentation/tutorial on how to set it up for WHS
3. Is it possible to use the WHS as the client/viewer as well? I've got a pretty powerful PC for HDTV and would prefer to use it for playing the TV...and at the same time use it for recording and WHS since it is dedicated 24x7

1. Yes
2. Other than installing it as an add-on thru the WHS console (runs as a service) it fundamentally runs the same.
3. I would recommend against this. WHS does not include DirectX and is designed as a headless media server. I'm not saying it can't be done but it works better to run it as designed. WHS as the SageTV server/media server and HD200 extenders or PCs as clients.

I agree. This is a server. It is not made to be logged into and playing video. You say that it is pretty powerful. So is my rig but I got the HD200 and have not been happier about how Sage is working now.

I would have to agree with gplasky's recommendation.

I do have my WHS box in the family room and hooked to LCD TV via HDMI; and I have tried a long time ago to stream it, but it really wasn't worth the effort. I gave up and got HD100/HD200 instead. If you require your new setup to be used as a client, you probably should stick with your current OS. WHS, however, works great when setup and used for what it was intended for.
