What products do I need for WHS stand alone box.

1. What Sage products do I need to use this one box for all this without any other computers involved?

2. I've never done anything with using a computer as a DVR so I'm quite new to this. I just assembled a WHS machine with a GeForce 8600 GT card. From what I read on this card it should to 1080i through the s-video port. I haven't hooked it up to my HTDV yet to try it out. Answered below thanks.

3. I was hoping to just use a DVD and Windows Media Player to try out the video but found out the WMP doesn't install on WHS. Is there a player that will? Answered in another post.

4. I do want to do DVR on this machine. I would like to start with a 2 channel card so I can record 1 channel while watching another with the ability to freeze or rewind live TV. Do I just install a TV card and Sage TV then I'm set? OK on this

I've read through what I can find on the forum about using Sage TV with Windows Home Server. It looks like I reserve a drive for Sage recording not added to the pool. I don't install Sage on this drive just record to it correct? - Answered below thanks.

Thanks,
Lance

You're not going to get 1080i out of S-video. 1080i is an HD format and would require component, DVI, or HDMI. Your 8600GT should have DVI and probably an adapter for component.

I think I understand what Lance means. Just about all nVidia cards have an output jack above the DVI ports that can do composite, s-video, and component. The port is s-video compatible (you can plug an s-video directly cable into it), but can also output 1080i component with a (usually included) component adapter.

Yes, that is correct. Actually, you do not get to choose where to install SageTV. Make sure to download the SageTV version for WHS and save the msi-file in "\\your-server-name\Software\Add-Ins". Install from the console ("Settings" - "Add-ins" - "Available" tab). SageTV then gets installed on one of the pooled drives.
