Weird SageMC Bug

I know development has been scaled back but there is this weird video import bug that cropped up several revisions ago. Basically when the title of an imported video has a colon in it, like "Kill Bill: Volume 1" a strange empty file appears along side the video. In this example it would be named "Kill Bill". Basically the name of the empty file is everything before the colon.

The issue is even worse if the MKV file itself has a title within the file which has a colon. In that case SageMC fails to pull retrieve DVD Profiler cover art for the file, but for some reason doesn't prevent it from retrieving the other metadata.

This wouldn't necessarily be that huge of a problem but I have a couple titles which have multiple periods in them, like "Babylon A.D.". For some reason those files cannot be deleted. At least I have yet to find a way to delete them. Very odd.

So if you could find it in your heart to look at this problem I would be eternally grateful.

I have a couple of questions:

Have you verified that this does not happen using the default STV?
Are you using any other plugins/imports?
Are you using any of the metadata import tools (i.e. BMT, or mediascraper)?

We basically have to first verify that this happen only when using SageMC with no other imports or utilities. From there we can get into debug logs, etc.

Aloha,
Mike

Ok, I'm using BMT 2.3.1. I changed back to the default STV. Scanned for the new file I placed in one of my import folders. It did not produce the extra file. I moved the file out, rescanned, and then moved the file back. I then switched to the latest SageMC without any imports. Rescanned and the empty file appeared. It appears to happen with only SageMC and no imports.

What is the full file name for the video file that does this? I'll have to try setting up a dummy file to see if it does it for me. Thanks.

Aloha,
Mike

Edit: So this happens when the Title field has a colon or period in it and has nothing to do with the file name? Do you have .my file generation enabled?

No, no .my file generation enabled. The only thing I have enabled is auto DVD Profiler option.

The full filename is:

Family Guy Presents Blue Harvest.mkv

The title field in the MKV file is:

Family Guy Presents: Blue Harvest

This only happens when the title has a colon. The ones with a period also had a colon. I don't remember the full title of the movie but Babylon A.D. actually had a colon with other stuff after the main title. It just happened that it had two periods in the name which for some reason I guess Windows doesn't like the trailing period that has no other text after it.

This also happens on a full DVD Profiler rescan when the MKV file has no title and the stored title of the movie in the metadata has a colon. It will then regenerate the empty files.

Does this only happen when using DVD Profiler?

The problem sounds like mis-handling of illegal filename characters. It might be trying to produce a dummy file for what it thinks is an offline DVD because it can't find a match between the actual filename and the name it is looking for (based on the title). I bet if you changed the filename to Family Guy Presents.mkv, it would work.

Yes, this only happens when using DVD Profiler. Deleted the file and did a rescan. Disabled auto DVD Profiler and recopied the file. Rescanned and no empty file appeared. When I did the manual DVD Profiler import the file appeared.

This should be fun. That code has been there a lot longer than I've been around. I'll have to dig through it to see what it's doing. The problem could be in the STV or it could be in the DVDPro2Sage class. I won't know until I get in there.

Aloha,
Mike

Ok, I wish I could remember when it started. I seem to recall it started rather recently in the last cycle of updates, like within the first half of the year some time. I first noticed it when I got my first 1TB drive in my server and moved everything over from my NAS to it. I want to say that was around April but with all the wedding planning it's all been a bit fuzzy.

Not sure how much this has been looked into but the DVD Profiler plugin that's included with SageMC is different and older than the one I have. The newer one I have was updated in December of last year for compatibility with newer versions of DVD Profiler. Come to think of it that might be about the time this started happening, not sure though.

I realize I could switch from DVD Profiler to using the Batch Metadata Tools but some of the poster images I've gotten are too large to be used on the slower HD100 or reasonably on Placeshifter. They just bring it to a crawl.

I've attached a copy of the newer DVDPro2Sage.class file I have.
Attached Files
File Type: zip DVDPro2Sage_New.zip (12.5 KB, 190 views)

I started to look into this a bit. I have a couple of ideas. Just have to find the time to try them out. I'll have to rely on you to be my guinea pig since I don't have DVD Profiler set up at the moment.

Aloha,
Mike

You may continue to work on this if you wish. As for myself I've decided to begin using the Metadata/Fanart Updater. I didn't realize that the system had been changed to automatically rescale the posters to a smaller size. The large size of many of the posters was the reason I was sticking with DVD Profiler.

Maintaining the list of DVD's and BD's in DVD Profiler and the list of videos in SageMC is quite redundant and isn't really necessary with the metadata/fanart system that is in place now.

Thank you for your help!

I have a similar, if not the same, problem. I can get the DVD Profiler Metadata to pull up just fine, but the cover art won't come over. I find I have to manually copy the cover art jpg and rename it to get it showing. Any help would be appreciated.

Same problem here. If I can be of any help, let me know.
