Best Restore Method

If I have a full SageTV directory backup, what is the best way to restore on a reinstall of the OS?

I have tried this before but I have to go through the setup wizard again and I lose my channels/sources. Is there a procedure to follow so I can upzip my backup and be back where I was with no additional configuration?

Do a new install of SageTV. (The same version as your backup) After the new install then copy your backup overwriting the new installation. You should have a working system of your previous Sage install. Then you can upgrade that with the latest version if you want.

I tried this the last time and Sage still wanted to go through the new setup menus and also had not sources listed. It may be because my recorded tv directory is not in the default location? Any thoughts?

You need both the new install and the install you trying to restore to be to the same directory. But I've done this hundreds of times on my WHS. I was troubleshooting an issue and did a new install. Tested for the issue. Copied over my previous install and brought back the issue. As long as the installs were identical (SageTV running as a service not as an app. Or visa-versa)it will work. You also have to make sure the SageTV service is shutdown or the app is quit and not sleeping in the tray. I did a standard install with no plugins and copied back an install that had SageMC and 8 plugins and didn't have to configure a thing.

It seemed to work this time. The only thing I did different is I went into Sage on the WHS. Last time I went to one of my extenders. Maybe that was it? Or maybe something didn't copy over right last time. Anyway, this time it worked perfectly. Thank you for your help!
