Which are the clear QAM channels ?

Hello,
just installed the white box Avermedia combo (m780) today.
Being unable to get anything to work on Vista/Vista media center,
I installed SageTv to try it.

I plugged the cable into the digital port on the card, and sageTV
scanned the channels. In the list that follows there are literally
hundreds of stations showing with the green circle.

What does this mean? It seems to be every possible channel on Time
Warners line up. How can I tell from this list which (if any) are
the clear QAM stations?

Thanks for any info.

I installed Avermedia's own software.
After it does a scan, it notifies you with a padlock next to channel
if it's encrypted.
Is there a similar notification in SageTV?
What am I looking for ?

There is no indicator in Sage for what is encrypted and what isn't. You would either neither to test it or write down what stations are clearQAM from your Avermedia software.

A full channel scan in SageTV for a QAM tuner should only be enabling the channels that the scan finds, and if it isn't a clear QAM channel, I didn't think it would find it.

Isn't that a dual analog + digital tuner? Are you scanning using the analog tuner or digital tuner?

I've got my Time warner feed going into the digital input,
while the analog input is left unattached.

According to SageTV's PDF on page 163, it says this:
"Scan for available channels:
Selecting this option will cause SageTv to scan through all channels
to automatically determine which channels can be received. The channels
that can be received will be enabled"

It seems to imply that it will differentiate between locked and unlocked signals.
To me, it seems illogical that it wouldn't.

Why would I want to spend hours doing it manually? Besides,
the channel numbers from the Avermedia App. don't match.

That has been my experience with QAM and a HDHR. The channel scan (actually done through the HDHR software) only results in clear QAM channels. It does include all 60 or so digital music channels, so I do have some manual manipulation of the results to cut all those out. Similar things might be going on with the OP's scan. It's clear QAM, but I have no interest in having all those channels in my guide .
