Any concerns with this HW for SageTV?
I've got a running MythTV box that I will shortly be doing a wipre/reinstall. I'm considering trying SageTV. I have the following setup:
Hauppauge WinTV PVR-350 Hauppauge WinTV PVR-250 ASUS A7V8X-X Motherboard AMD XP 2600+ w/512MB RAM Antec Overture Case w/380W Seagate 200GB ST3200822A ULTRA ATA 100 8MB 7200RPM MSI MX440-T 64MB 8XAGP DDR W/TV SONY 16X DVD-ROM DDU1621 Silver Anything here to be concerned with for SageTV? Thanks, Matt |

what is the revision of the 250?
Also you might have a problem with the Via chipset. |

Can I tell the PVR-250 revision visually somehow?
I aware of the issues with the VIA chipset and Linux, but Windows/SageTV has issues as well? Thanks, Matt |

Via chipsets tend to be rather cheap, but have issues I tend to end up using them, and with enough driver updates you can make most stuff work.
Your 250 is a V15 if it has a big metal heatsink, v16 if not. V16 and PVR350 are not compatible in the same box. |

i'd be much more inclined to spend a couple extra bucks and get the a7n8x nforce2 board.
350 and 250 together as already mentioned is generally a no go due to the difficulty in finding rev 15 pvr250's maybe an upgraded card and a pair of 250's might be a better choice? if you have an hdtv you're probably better to forgo the pvr350 anyway. |

Heard Myth TV is the best looking PVR software, how did you like it bair?
Sage is very solid software, even the beta 2, I think that present full version which you can demo is not that fancy looking, functional but nothing in the looks department, Sage 2 is much better looking and getting better all the time. Patrick |

Mythtv has been a learning experience for me, but I was eager to get up to speed on Linux.
Basically 2+ tuners is a minimum requirement for me. I got things running great, but I'm to the point where I want to start clean and do some things differently. Since MythTV likes my PVR-250/350 no matter their tuner revisions, sounds like MythTV is stil my only option. But I think I'm going to pay attention for when SageTV 2 comes out. Perhaps this time around I setup to dual-boot WXP and Linux so I'll be able to trial SageTV later. Thanks again! |

VIA with PVR 250
Hi...
OK... this thread is speaking volumes to me. Today I put together my ASUS VIA chipset MB with AMD processor. I bought a 250 from Sage and it won't work. It will install OK, but when you try to install the Happauge applications, it says it can't find the board. Also, if you go ahead and install SageTV, it will find the card, but can't find any inputs to use with it. So, I went to Circuit City and bought one there thinking I just had a bad card..... nope. Same symptoms. However, the PVR-USB2 works great. I was thinking about the 350, but I'm assuming that the 350 is the exact same card as the 250 except with a TV out so I'm very reluctant to buy one from Sage only to have to pay to ship it back. Suggestions? Thanks, Stacy |

Have you read the last paragraph on the Hauppauge Driver Update page ? The paragraph starts with "VIA 4-in-1 driver update will often fix compatibility problems with the WinTV."

THANK YOU!
Thank you!
That worked perfectly. Now, it leads one to ask WHY the tech from Hauppauge didn't ask me this question. He gave up and told me to send the card back after re-booting, re-seating the card and re-installing the drivers. THANK YOU AGAIN! Stacy |
