AverMedia AVerTVHD Duet or Hauppauge 2250?
Quote:
From a tuner standpoint, is there an advantage for one over the other other than price? Will they operate on Windows Vista Home Basic? How about XP SP3? Will Sage see these as 2 tuners or 4 (2/QAM, and 2 ATSC)? Are the QAM and analog tuners the same tuner? I also have a thirst for QAM knowledge. Where do I post inquiries? Thanks. Looks like I need to read more..and ask less. The AVERmedia Duet apparently does not handle analog cable-just ATSC OTA and Clear QAM.
As I need analog cable capabilities as well, looks like the Hauppauge 2250 for me. |

The Haup does do the analog (x2), so if you need that the choice is already made for you.

Another question: is the tuner for ATSC OTA the same as the QAM tuner?
If so, then can I use the OTA input of a Hauppauge 1600 to tune the Clear QAM stations from my analog cable? Update: I found that one out for myself, too. Nevermind.............................. Last edited by Ronno6; 07-03-2009 at 03:50 PM. |

The 2250 has 2 hybrid tuners. Each tuner can do OTA ATSC, QAM, Analog NTSC or s-Video/stereo audio recording, but only one recording per tuner at a time.

I have an Avermedia A-180 digital card; can I use the A-180 together with the A-188 Aver Duet card in the same machine?
Also, will it work with Windows 7rc? Thanks, Randy

It only has 2 tuners? I thought it had 4 tuners, 2 QAM/ATSC and 2 analog? That's just what I gathered from the description on the Hauppauge site.

Whether it is seen as 2 or 4 tuners, from what I've read, you can only utilize 2 at any one time. Watching one while recording from another, and digital/analog is of no consequence. Inquiring minds still need to know.................................. |

A lot of people gathered that and a lot of people were wrong - and a little ticked.

Yeah the website said:

Looking at it's picture though it becomes more apparent. Damn marketing speak. I think I'll go with the Avermedia duet card now. They have drivers for XP, Vista and windows 7 all 32bit and 64bit. That is some serious driver support. I just don't see it listed in the officially supported tuners for Sage. Last edited by kricker; 07-03-2009 at 05:53 PM. |

Ahh, but I need the analog tuners to catch all the great series on cable networks that I don't get in clear QAM. I'd have to go digital with the STB and send to the HTPC via S-video or composite?? (I think my cable company encrypts all but the locally OTA digital stations.)
Bummer! As for the hype, most ads I've seen say that you can record/watch 2 digital sources, 2 analog sources, or 1 digital and 1 analog simultaneously. So, maybe you have 4 tuners, but can only use 2 at a time. Hence the origin of the term "dual." Thanks all for your responses. |
