Unhappy Help before the wife kills me -- Recordings there, but skip to end immediately

Argh.

This problem just started recently. It was only with a few recordings, but is now happening to all of them. It could totally be related to the switchover to digital and some kind of incorrect flagging by my cable company (note: wife is trying to confirm whether it also happens with OTA hi-def recordings or not).

Anyway, my analog recordings are definitely recording, but if you go to watch them, it starts, jumps to different points in time on recording (like 7:01, 17:49, 25:06, 39:07; 43:01, end). Restarting will result in different time jumps, but similar skips.

You an use the rewind/back button to go back to what was skipped and start watching it, but then it (seemingly) randomly eventually jumps to another time point (note: wife not willing to try watching the file in VLC or Windows Media Center at the moment, so I can't confirm yet that it plays ok, but I suspect it will).

Any ideas what may be causing this?

I WAS running Beta 16 until this morning, and updated to RC 18 to see if it cleared the problem (nope).

Vista Business SP2 w/ updates as of today (6-23)
Java 6 Update 14
2 x HVR-2250 and 1 x HVR-1600 set up as 3 x OTA HD and 3 x cable analog
e7300 CPU, 4GB RAM, Intel 4500HD graphics (G45 chipset)
Western Digital 1TB / 32MB cache GP for PVR drive, 64k clusters (TEMP drive also on this drive)
Boot drive is 30GB OCZ Vertex SSD (shouldn't cause the problem, but...?)
No anti-virus
Cable company is U.S. Cable

Problems happen on main HTPC, remote HTPC (running Sage Client) and 2 HD200s.

I have had no problem recording/watching 4-5 streams at a time previously.

Save my marriage!

Joe

I'm not sure what's causing it, but you might try running QuickStream Fix within VideoRedo to see if that fixes it. This will only work if the file is an mpg file. That would at least diagnose that the problems are in the recordings not the playback.

Does this FAQ help:

During playback, the timeline advances several seconds for each second of actual playback. How can I fix this?

Why, yes, I did... and I have no idea how I managed to do that, so:

Thanks. I've now moved it where it was supposed to have been posted.

Exclamation

I'll try it and let you know. Strange that it has been running fine for quite some time, though.

As an update, the files do seem to have some trouble when playing with VLC and PowerDVD as well, but they are at least watchable.

LIVE TV seems to be ok for the most part, but if you hit the RECORD button while watching LIVE TV, it will bork (that's a technical term), particularly if something else is already recording.

I will check the OTA HD situation tomorrow.

If it were me, I'd point the finger at the storage drive. You've got 6 streams recording to the same device, that also happens to be your TEMP drive. Could possibly be having problems, or going bad. I'm currently doing 4 streams to my WHS' box storage system, and it seems to be going fine (all SD though, not sure how it'll handle true HD streams when I finally switch over). You might try adding a new recording drive (any size would really do to test with), and move the recording directory over to that temporarily to see if that fixes the problem. I wouldn't think the SSD would have anything to do with it, but I'd also make sure that Sage didn't stilil have it's default storage location set to go there, or you'll likely have issues there as well.

I've was having the same problem, and I too have the HVR-2250. I sent in a ton of logs and a video clip for them to analyze and it seems to come back as a driver issue. I was told that those reg settings Opus mentioned were for the PVR-150 and 500 only per http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=41942
I've tried every driver I can get my hands on and the only one that stops this problem for me is the one linked in the sticky in the hardware Support forum. http://download.sage.tv/090331_22xx_...PreRelease.zip
The problem is that still once in a while I get hangs and black screens that also seem to be caused by the hauppauge driver. I'd rather suffer with the occassional restart than have three quarters of all my recordings messed up though.
