What is the best way of recording the news everyday

What is the best way of recording the news everyday

Hi

I'm wanting to record the news every day but if I setup the news as a favourite program it only records once or twice ( presumably because the epg data is always the same and sage doesn't record duplicates ). Is there any way of recording programs that are always different yet always have the same epg data. I know I could set a timed recording but I was hoping for a more elegant and simple way of recording these programs.

Any ideas or should this be on the sage wish list??

Thanks

J

I record the news everyday. I have it setup as a favorite to record 1st runs and re-runs on the specific channel I want. Works like a champ. Records the news every night for me.

I record the NewsHour and it annoyingly records it 3 times a day. How are you recording the 'news' now (Favorite by title, keyword, ???)?

You can set it to record at a select time and on a specific channel in the advanced settings. I also limit mine to a max of two recordings so that it will record over the older episodes automatically. (Set to keep until space is need or it will simply stop recording new ones.)

This is really dependant on how the guide data is representing your indiviudal newscast. The two news programs I have set as favorites DO have unique guide data each day (not in description, but in ID, which is what matters), so i just get one recording a day. Like I said, it's a limitation of the guide data, not a problem with news programs in general.

I record a network news station each morning without a problem - It is set up as a favorite and I guess it has a unique identifier.

However, I would really like the Favorite set up menu to allow me to save only the most recent recording and automatically overwrite the oldest. Currently if you set a maximum number of recordings to 2, then once it reaches that level it stops recording. I would like a checkbox that says "Continuously replace oldest" so that I always have the most recent show and Sage overwrites the oldest one.

Sage SHOULD keep the newest, (2 in your case) and overwrite the oldest. if this is not occurring, it is because it feels you've already recorded the new one, so it doesn't need to. this comes down to the unique id thing again.

I see your point… At the same time, I record news shows and have never been bothered with manually deleting the older files I do make sure that I only record 1 specific airing of the news to avoid recording multiple airings throughout the day. I know in SageMC there is an airing time constraint in the series settings, as well as a channel constraint. I don’t recall if these are options in the regular Sage STV or not…

Just realized that if you are recording up to your Max Keep number, and it is not recording any more, it's probably due to you having AutoDelete turned off for that favorite.

Also, yes, I do believe the default STV has favorite time restraints.. I think It's under advanced options for the favorite, or something like that.

This is available in Sage now ... just simply set your favorite to do this.
Just set your fav to keep at most the number you want and set autodelete to yes.
