It's a 3 part process:

You need ComSkip which is a separate program to process the video files and create the 'comskip files'.

You need to install the ComSkip plug-in so Sage knows what to do (already included if you use the SageMC replacement user interface).

You need to tell ComSkip to run on new recordings. I use Dirmon2 but you can also use ComskipMonitor or I think Sage can also trigger. I use Dirmon2 because of the standalone GUI where I can monitor and control what runs when.

I have had good luck with commskip monitor. which runs external to sageTV and monitors your recordings directory and produces the index files etc... that SageMC understands and allows one to easily skip commercial breaks in recorded content (on playback).

You can set up times of the day for commskip to do it's work (or not), and adjust how much CPU it will command while doing it.

I may be reading the OP a little different from everybody else, but it sounds like the request is also to have a recording with the ads removed (i.e., strip the ads out, leaving a smaller file). For that, I think you need a program like VideoRedo.

You can read more here.
