HD PVR + SAGE + USB UIRT

Does anyone know if I can not use the crummy IR BLASTER that came with the HD PVR and substitue a USR UIRT. The Sage interface is so much better than what comes with the HD PVR.

I use the USB-UIRT with my HDPVR - no issues. Never installed the utilities that came with the HDPVR. You can also use the zones if you have a splitter.

I use the IR Blaster that came with the HD-PVR and it seems to work well, except at times I have to restart the IR application.

If I add another HD-PVR I will move to the USB-UIRT since the Hauppauge IR blaster application will not work with multiple HD-PVR's on the same system.

Ok, really dumb questions probably, but what is a spliiter in this context? Do I have to order that seperately from the USB-UIRT?

I have a USB-Uirt that's just been sitting there since I've only been running one of my HD-PVRs at a time. I just RMAed the flakier of the two units for an E1 (please god don't lock up regularly), and am now ready to set up the two with the USB-UIRT. I just have no idea how to start really. Any pointers before I jump into google looking for answers? Using with my two Dish 211k (I think) receivers.

With Dish units, you don't really need to worry about multi-zoning, as you can just program them each to different IR codes. The USB-UIRT's multizoning is more useful for multiple devices that use the same codes, like having multiple DirecTV boxes. This way you can shield the individual emitters from each other, and send commands to just ONE of the boxes at a time.

Just set one of your dish boxes to Remote Address 1 and the other to address 2, learn the commands in sage with the remote in 1, then learn the commands for the second with the remote in 2. Then, just set the USB-UIRT up to point at both boxes, and you're good to go.

You can read about how the zoning works here:
http://www.usbuirt.com/phpBB2/viewto...=zone+splitter

Here's a nice image of how to read the .ir files to use the zones in SageTV:
http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/atta...6&d=1147406820

But as Fuzzy says - you might not need them. This would however, be a good way to control 4 boxes with 1 usbuirt....

Good luck!

Actually, Dish boxes can be address 1 through 15... so with multizoning, technically, a USB-UIRT can actually control 45 dish boxes... ;-) however, the time it takes to get through all those channel changes might mean you're missing half the show..
