HD-PVR D1 vs D2

My original unit was a D2, that apparently gave up the ghost last week.
While I had some documented problems with the unit and Sage, it never would crash (lockup) on me.
I had an RMA'ed unit sent to me, but they sent me a D1 version.
The new unit would randomly crash (lockup I guess).
The device is visible in device manager, but Sage states that a capture device failure occured (thanks Sage for System Messages).
The only way to bring the system back to life is to reboot the HD-PVR.
I already covered the IR window and the STB is set to only output at 720p.
Is what I'm experiencing the infamous "lockup" that is reported so much here?
Is anyone with a D1 not having issues with it?
I'm going to call to see if they can send me another unit this week..

Yes, that's the lockup issue so many of us are experiencing.

I'm disappointed to hear they sent you an older D1 unit. They should have sent you a D2 or E1.

I've got one of my two units at Hauppauge and I'm waiting for the replacement unit. This will be the third RMA exchange (C1 to C2 to D2 to ?). The second D2 I have locks-up only occasionally and actually has been running now for about three weeks without a lockup.

If Hauppauge sends me an older unit that locks-up frequently I will be very very discouraged.

This D1 would randomly lockup from 10 - 30 minutes of usage.
Its totally useless..
I'm going to send my bad D2 tomorrow and call them to send me an equal or newer unit. So another week of no TV for me.. Not happy

I have used a D1 unit since I purchased my HD-PVR. I have not had a lockup, or major issue that was not user error, since December. Most my lockups were due to loose cables, or an attempt to use the SPDIF cable.

Of course I have implemented about half the recommended stability tweaks. I have my cable box locked at a fixed 1080i output, 4 second delay in tuning, and i have covered the IR sensor.

On the flip side, I also employ many of the items that everyone says causes instability. For example I use a 2 meter long USB cable, not the original one, in fact I do not even know where mine is, also it seems that all my USB ports are on the same root hub, but my wireless keyboard, Wireless N adapter, and the HD-PVR appear to co-exist quite well.

In closing other that the inability to use the SPDIF audio, my D1 unit is extremely stable, and I am quite happy with it.
