How to record part of a show?
If I watch something ten minutes in, the show is 60minutes long, what's the best way to start recording and stop recording maybe 30min later? It looks like SageTV records the entire show, which I'd rather not have it do.
Thanks, - Eli |

Use 'negative padding'. Normally, you would set padding to add a minute at the beginning of a show or add 20 minutes at the end (American Idol, Awards shows). But, if you set -10 at the beginning of the show and -20 at the end of the show Sage will do exactly what you want. The whole timeline will be there with 10 minutes of red at the beginning and 20 minutes of red at the end.

Or you could let it record the whole show and edit out the clip you want to keep later. There's a video editing plugin that should make this fairly painless.

The problem is the way the TV station is set up, they broadcast in 3hr chunks, but there are maybe 3-6 different shows during that time. I guess there is no plugin to say I want to record, then stop recording later when I tell it to, right?
That negative padding suggestion seems quite complicated, I am setting this up for a user and trying to make it as easy as possible. |

If I call it "Adjust start and stop times" does it seem less complicated? That's what it's called when you do it for a one-time record. When it's a Favorite, it's called 'Padding' and Sage will do it automatically every time Sage records the show. Either way it's the easy way to get what you want.
More complicated: Set up a timed recording to start and stop exactly when you want. But if the show changes time slots you have to set it up again each time. And if you stop the recording for some reason, you lose any future repeats. The most complicated: Edit the video file after you record it. But you're still recording the whole timeslot which you said you didn't want to do. IMHO |
