Copy SageTV recordings from one PC to another

Hi there,

I have two PC's running SageTV 6.5.9. I want to copy the recordings from PC2 to PC1 and see the recordings shown on PC1's SageTV recordings list.

I copied the files from PC2 to PC1's video directory and tried to change the advanced_video_file_recovery and repair_mismatched_media_filenames from false to true and back without any success.

Any other suggestions? Or is it possible to do what I want to do?

Thanks!

Copy the wiz.bin file in the SageTV directory from PC2 to PC1. And read the FAQs.

Gerry

EDITED the post: If PC2 is the original installation then it is win.bin PC2 to PC1. Overwrite the existing, smaller wiz.bin on PC1.

If I copy wiz.bin from PC2 to PC1, will I lose the recording listings which are already on PC1? I just want to add recordings from PC2 from PC1 and keep every recording on PC1.

Thanks!

My thoughts are since you copied the files to PC2 and are copying the wiz.bin, you are good to go and will have basically mirrored systems.

If there are recordings on PC1 taht were recently made then yes-you will lose those listings. That is why I directed you to the FAQs. It explains in details how to move files and your options. You needed to copy your original PC2 wiz.bin to the new installation BEFORE beginning any recordings. The advanced_video_file_recovery MIGHT be able to recover them. Or use the web server to generate a xml file for each recording and import them. Search the forum for more details.

Hi All,

Thanks for all the suggestions. I actually tried the following FAQ first without any success.

http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30697

That's why I tried the false to true and back to false on both advanced_video_file_recovery and repair_mismatched_media_filenames settings.

I have many recordings on both PC1 and PC2. I just want to combine them into one PC instead of having recordings on two PC's. Creating the recording one by one manualy is going to take lots of time. I want to know if there is a way that PC1 can pick up those recordings from PC2 automatically.

Thanks again!

Theres no easy way to do this.

The only thing I could think of would be to install JREKiwi's stvi that creates .properties files for each recording, and then copy the mpg and its associated .properties files to the other PC. Then Sage will pick up the metadata from the properties files, but the files will have to be put in an imported video's folder, and will show as imported media rather than in the recordings listing.

I don't know if this is any help or not.

The web server plugin has the ability to export airing metadata as XML files and import it again into Wiz.bin. You'll need to set up the web server on both machines to accomplish this, and copy the XML files along with the recordings from one machine to another.

That said, you might be better off in the long run setting up one machine as the master server and configuring the other as a network encoder, so that all your recordings end up in the same database instead of split into two separate databases. (This assumes that the two servers are on the same LAN.)
