Deinterlacing 1080i video

I have been using the pdvd 8.x viedo decoder in sagetv for tv playback for a while now using overlay. Something has changed. For some reason it no longer looks as smooth. This is in windows as well, so I'm unsure of the reason. I have the ati 8.4 drivers installed because they seem to be the most compatible. I had automatic deinterlacing checked and no matter how I change this setting it doesn't affect the picture. Sagetv decoder and vmr9 help, but still far from perfect. also, for some reason the pdvd mpeg2 video decoders won't play nice with vmr9 anymore.

If anyone has any advanced configuration they use I would appreciate it very much. I'm just very picky when it comes to video quality.

Thanks

EDIT: I forgot to mention that the pulldown detection box is now greyed out in the ccc panel.

Your video card is too underpowered for HD playback. It's basically a die-shrunk, warmed-over 2400Pro. I tried running a 2400Pro in my client, but it really struggled on 1080i content (erratic frame rate, color popping and shimmer, etc). And that was a best case scenario, as I was in Vista and using EVR rendering and the Cyberlink 8 EVR-aware decoder.

I suggest upgrading to at least a Radeon 4650.

I would agree if it never worked, but it used to deinterlace wonderfully. I'm thinking about a 4650 any way, but thanks.

Panteragstk, could you elaborate? I'm noticing something also. All of a sudden now I noticed getting a few pauses and drops. Not sure if signal related or not. But older content from a month ago is silky smooth.

Not sure whats going on just yet. I don;t have time to update ati drivers. But, fwiw, I have a 2650 that used to play QAM just fine.
