VNC as virtual secondary monitor?

Hey guys, I run SageTV server on a machine with no keyboard or mouse. I use RealVNC (I think that's the flavor) on it and just VNC in to make changes etc. I have this machine hooked up to my TV. Often I have to delay doing something because the machine is being used to watch a recording at that time.

Does anyone know of a way to set up VNC (or something similar) that would allow me to have a 'virtual' desktop, perhaps even a virtual secondary monitor, so that I could keep SageTV Client open on the primary and still be able to access the desktop without obstructing the primary monitor? I'm not sure if this is possible or if my explanation makes sense.

if you are running a windows machine, you can "trick" it to use a multi-user mode. At that point, you can RDP (remote desktop) into it as another user and change whatever you want. Not sure if you'd be able to open a 2nd session of the sage client though, but you could def update operating system settings, update virus protection, firewall etc.

Look around google for "multi-user XP" "remote desktop hack" or something similar. You basically need to find/replace the termsrv.dll file with an "updated" one. I've seen hacks for vista too. In linux, you could probably do something similar, but I've not had any expiriance at all with this.

I use it. You can open Sage client over RDP but its pretty slow in my experience and I would not want to watch video, but its OK to change settings quickly
