new hd200 wont play archived dvd's

just bought 2 more hd200's. the first one of these i set up won't play archived dvd's. It plays all my music, pictures, and home movies but when i try to play a dvd it just returns to the menu screen. I updated the extenders software, did not fix it. I am using sagemc but cannot get it to play even when in standard mode. The extender that I have been using for months still works fine.

How about some specifics of your setup? Firmwares? I assume when you state "two more" that you have one working? What version of Sage? System specs? Network setup?

well lets see, the two new ones i updated with the latest firmware, not sure of the version number as it is the latest as of today it says when doing the update check, to try to resolve the issue. I have a machine running vista home premium. I have a wired network via linksys router and netgear gigabyte switch. 1tb network hrd drive full of dvd's, 1tb internal hd with dvd's, home movies, pictures, mp3's and lossless cd's.

both new extenders will play home movies, mp3's, cd's and pics. they will load the dvd's along with loading the fanart. I can select a dvd from the list, it goes to the next screen to play or add to playlist or whatever, but when I select play at this point it simply goes back to the main menu screen. does not matter if i am trying to play a dvd from the network drive or directly from the pc hd.

sage tv is 6.5.9.0. I have installed sagemc 6.3.9. have been running this setup for a bit. The third extender, which i purchased back in feb is wired as well and has no issue playing anything.

not sure what other info i can give.

Have you updated your troublesome extenders with the latest beta firmware or the latest production firmware?

My question was whether you're running the beta firmware not that I missed your previous answer.

there seem to be to many places to look

when i simply turn on the extender without connecting to the sagetv server it says sagetv version is 6.4.5.1 and the firmware version is 20081230 0

now when i connect to the sagetv server it says sagetv version is 6.5.9.204 and the stv version is 2009020201

i have no idea what is beta or what. all i know is in either case it says my software/firmware is up to date...

please remember that neither one worked before updating, ie with the factory installed software/firmware..

i also checked the ol extender and all the version numbers are the same as the two new ones so just to me it does not appear to be a software/firmware issue.

I was actually going to suggest that you use the beta firmware. Your firmware version is not the current beta so you might want to try that. When you go to update the firmware push 2-3-8-2 before checking for an update and that will get you the beta firmware. If necessary you can revert later by going to the same area and check for updates without the 2-3-8-2.

i will give it a shot but if all three have the same version of everything then why would 2 not work? and why will all the rest of my media play?

It might be something in your configuration file. You might try to copy the property file for the one that works (in the clients subfolder named with the macaddress.properties) and use it for one of the new ones.

Official support will want you to try the default STV and turn on debugging. I would try the default STV before contacting support and only contact them if it still fails.

Was this happening with many different rips? I ask because I occasionally get some weird behavior from Sage on certain dvd rips. For example, when I try to play a rip of Sleeping Beauty, Sage always presents me with the language selection screen and won't let me out of it. I rip all of my dvds the same way using AnyDVD and Theatre Tek has no trouble with the rip so I don't know what the problem could be (could be an authoring issue that Theatre Tek is more tolerant of). I eventually just used DVD Shrink to create a "movie only" file to maintain peace with my 3 and 4 year old girls.

One question nobody's asked is if you're running Sage in service mode or not. If you're running in Service mode, and upgrade the Sage software, you'll need to make sure it's running as the user that has access to that network drive. I tend to always forget this after upgrading to a newer version, and have the exact same symptoms. Tries to play, but can't access the network share. I would definitely check that (as the installer always sets it back to the Local account during install).

queequeg99.. I have the same issue with some dvds. I can't get out of the menus or if I pick a menu item it plays a completely different thing than I chose.

FWIW, that's really, really old. The latest stable firmware is "20090903 0", the latest beta is "20100518 1".
