Help! I jacked up my WHS Sagetv
I wanted to do a clean install of Sagetv after recovering my WHS (virus got in the network). I didn't really have much as far as TV recordings go, so I DID NOT save my wiz.bin. I moved about 150 Gigs of movies to an external hard drive, and then installed sage, and copied the 150 gigs of movies back to my pooled share "videos" folder. I try and play a movie and I get "sagetv.playbackexception". No error # after it. It's odd, becasue that is what I was getting before doing the recovery on my xp machine and my WHS.
So after reading about the hole drive mapping to \\(servername)\videos, I tried deleting the "localhost directories" and could not find where these UNC directories were located. I have also made a few different usernames and passwords as well matching up with my xp machine, and what I have in the WHS console. I even RD'd into the WHS and ran services.msc to put in the same log on and password. So I guess I would like to know how to set up the directories correctly first, and then what are the causes of this playback exception error with no #s after it. I haven't even set up my HD-PVR yet in fear of getting this error. It's just so frustrating since I had everything working perfectly for about a month until this virus hit my network. Thanks! |

Update: I figured out how to get the correct directories in. I just ran the Sage UI from RD and typed in the directory and it found it ok. Still getting the "sagetv.playbackexception." error when trying to play them, though. Going to try and set up the HD-PVR.
Anyone got any ideas? Thanks |

On what PC are you getting this error - the WHS box? I always get an error when trying to play back videos on my WHS PC as I don't think WHS has the capabilities to play back videos in Sage unless you install other software/drivers. Can you play back videos via Placeshifter or extenders?

Just installed the latest HD-PVR drivers and IR blaster software, changed the video directory to "\\(my server's name)\Recorded TV, and selected the found HD-PVR to configure. I choose "Component with SPDIF", and it just hangs on the preview. I backed out and tried to do line TV, nothing. Does it have something to do with my administrators? This is so confusing. I am running XP with the console and am RDing in, but I just cannot fix this darn thing.

Sounds like a permission problem. I don't use WHS so can't help you there.

Make sure on the WHS server, that you are pointing to the //SERVERNAME/SHARE_NAME where your files are stored, not the D:\share\video directory or whatever you called it.
Since sage is also kinda smart about storage of directory names, you will need to do the following 1) create a new directory where your SageTV videos will be stored 2) under setup -> detailed setup -> general -> video recording directories add the directory you created in step #1 3) in the video recording directories, removed the old folder where the video files were located 4) on the server, either move the video files to the directory created in step #1 At this point, you should be able to view the videos. If you don't want to "move" the files, you can do the following instead of 5) 4) delete the directory you created in step #1, then rename the old folder to be the same name as the directory you created in step #1

Thanks for the responses.
I figured out the whole directory thing, but my main problem now is this "sagetv.playbackexception" error without an error # after it. I can see the videos, even the thumbnails and everything I had set up before, but I get this error when I actually try to view them I have the video recording directory pointing at a new share for the recorded TV from my HD-PVR, and that just hangs as well on the preview screen. Is there something with the new PP2 WHS that I am not getting? Could I get this error becasue I am not on the latest java (which I am going to try next)? Properties file becasue I didn't save my wiz.bin? On that, can somebody confirm that the wiz.bin file does not need to be saved when adding videos after a fresh install, just recordings, right? Thanks again |

I had this same error with my HD200, try unplugging the power cord to the HD200 for 30sec and plug it back in and try again. If that does not work, goto the directory for client properties files
C:\Program Files\SageTV\SageTV\clients the file will look like this 001f3b543459.properties there could be more than one if you have multiple clients like I do, I made a change to the setup on the HD200 and the date modified changed with it, that is how I identified which file to delete. Delete this file, unplug the HD200, plug it back in, power it up and reconfigure the defaults. That is how I got mine working again. |

Wow, do I feel stupid. The whole time it was a power cycle that fixed nearly every single Sage problem I was having. Many thanks to you
