VideoReDo TV Suite: Any Happy Campers?
I'm demo-ing this thing - unencumbered by any knowledge at all about editing videos.
I've seen enough rave reviews that the misanthrope/cynic in me wonders if somebody's shilling it. OTOH, I've been fooling around with it for two days now and it seems to do the job. How about it? Is VideoReDo TV Suite the Read Deal? About eighty bucks...

If you don't need the DVD-burning features, you could save $30 by getting the Plus version instead. That's what I have, and I consider it a worthwhile buy.

I demoed the VideoReDo Suite last year and did not buy it, since I already owned TMPGEnc 1.6, which I used to burn DVDs. I decided to buy it a couple of weeks ago after another demo. The suite seems run a bit slower than the lower cost VideoReDo Plus. The DVD burning process runs very slowly, but if you kick it off and walk away for awhile, it is acceptable.
The main reason I like the Suite version is the way the frames display below the main screen, plus the audio track display - these make it easier to edit videos. The main downside to VideoReDo is that it only edits Mpeg2 format. Compressed video, such as AVI files cannot be edited with VideoReDo Plus or Suite. VideoReDo also has "Quickfix", which fixes a lot of video file problems. VideoReDo has a very quick learning curve compared to the expensive video editing programs. Dave |

Like it a lot. My preferred choice for the cost. BUT it is lacking h264 support. They have said they would add it for a year and am still waiting.

+1 in the like it column.
+1 on the thumbnails in the suite. Makes editing a breeze. Easy learning curve. Easy to get started but powerful as you get more confident. I really like the batch processing. I can do the edits on my laptop while I'm sitting on the couch watching TV, then after I have a few programs queued up I let the server chew on them. I only tried the built in ad-detective once. That one time it did a poor job compared to comskip. Instead I have comskip generate a project file for VideoRedo at the same time it does its other stuff. Works great.

I agree, the commercial detection feature does not work very well. I also use the batch feature quite a bit. Command line is also available with VideoReDo.

I've been using VRD for years and it's a great program. There is no better MPEG2 editor on the market IMHO.

I have the 2nd, MPEG Video Wizard. I don't burn or create DVD's. I'm not a video edit guru though...I just needed something to cut up MPEG files and these two were listed here. I tried both, and for some reason, my brain "get's" MPEGVW better.

video redo by a country mile
![]() It's also fast at editing as it just chops and copies without trying to recode the files. It is an idea tool for preparing files for dvd or compression. It has another neat trick up it's sleave. You can take files and write them direct to a dvd or dvd file. Most mpeg processing software recodes them. video redo writes them direct to disc so you don't loose any quality. also you can que up (batch process) files so you don't have to wait on your computer. ![]() overall I'm very happy it was made and have used it for years. I class it as indispensable ![]() ps I don't work for videoredo ( or any affiliate ) in anyway. I just loaded my computer with junk files and wasted hours trying every other bit of software there is out there. I hope you don't make the same mistakes I did. |

FYI - Videoredo is suppose to release a beta of their long awaited H.254 supported software by the end of the month. The admins have stated that several times over the last couple of weeks. They are confident that it will be released. In the past, they always said "soon" and never given a specific date. So hopefully this is really going to happen.

I use both VideoRedo Plus and MPEG Video Wizard.
VideoRedo for Quick Stream fix and commercial cutting (together with ComSkip or by itself). My DVB capture files have a lot of bad packets in them. Most of the time VideoRedo can fix it for me. MPEG Video Wizard is only used when I want to convert the files from VideoRedo for archive purpose (DVD or H.264). I usually put in a blend/fade effect between every commercial break, so it feel much nicer.

I've been using VideoRedo for about a little over a month and it works pretty well.... as long as it isn't a QAM recording via my HDHomerun. Those are a real "hit or miss" when it comes to the audio. Sometimes the audio will work, sometimes it won't.
It hasn't been that much of a huge deal because most of the files I convert and keep are children's shows so I've just started making sure that I only record them on analog channels... |

I have not used Videoredo much since I started recording HD. Once there is support for h264, then I will start using it again.
As to suite, I actually like it. It was an easy way to archive TV shows on DVD. I also like I could make custom menu and thumbnails. For that reason, I highly recommend it.

When I first used videoredo I thought it couldn't handle the audio as there was no audio in the output file. I discovered that a lot of digital tele has two audio streams. One of the audio streams is the main audio and the other audio stream is either a blank or is the audio descriptions. video redo won't automatically select the right one so what i do is go to "tools" in the menu bar then "select stream" and choose the correct audio stream from there. I have found (with my UK digital setup) that the audio stream ending with xc1 carries the main/correct audio. I have only had one problem with audio with video redo and that was when the sound was either ac3 or aac ( can't remember which) - I found nerovision express ( from nero 6 ) could be used to trim these files (go to "make dvd" then "add video files" and then export the file as an mpeg) . |

I love this software. It makes editing mpeg2 a breeze. I can't recommend it enough.
