New HD200 will not boot past SageTV splash screen

OK... this is an annoying problem.

I have 4 HD200s in my house working flawlessly. Just ordered my 5th and plugged it in assuming I would get to choose my outputs and finish setup.

It shows the SageTV splash screen, then the video out is lost on my TV and in about 10 seconds it shows the SageTV splash screen again. It's in an infinite loop rebooting.

Anyone seen this? Anyone know how to fix it? I tried the old 'Hold down delete button and plug it in' trick but it doesn't do anything.

Also, I've tried using HDMI as well as composite video out.

Thanks in advance.
Noah

Have you tried just hitting the video out button?

yep!

Yes, I have the exact same problem. I got my box early last week (maybe even late the week before), and have been troubleshooting the exact same thing ever since. I've tried many different things and haven't had much luck with George either.

I dunno if they are really busy or what, but I only get a response every couple days and he's told me to try and get logs a couple times now. Trouble is, I can't get logs because the box never boots up enough to let me log in. I tried telling him that once, but apparently it didn't stick.

Anyways, any other ideas?

When I tried to update the firmware from the server (by holding the back button with the .bin file in the SageTV/SageTV folder), the red light flashes like 3 times, and then its all green. Is that how it is supposed to work? Most descriptions online sound like both lights will be flashing.

As I was typing that, I got an RMA number from George!

Thought of more info too:

I can see one screen past the Sage logo (the "Starting up Media Center" or whatever it is) for a brief instant before the unit cuts off and reboots.

I've let it run overnight before and in the morning, its still rebooting over and over.

You might try cold booting it without the ethernet cable plugged in. Don't plug it in until after the box comes up. If you get it to come up, plug the cable in and take the latest firmware update. Also, if you aren't doing so already, connect it up with the composite outputs rather than the HD ones. I believe the SD outputs are always on.

This is still happening.

Tried composite cables
Tried no ethernet

Sounds like a handful of us are getting the same thing happening. My request for support has not been responded to.

Does Sage have a customer support phone number?!?!?!?
Thanks,
Noah

The support request form says they will respond within 72 hours & it sounds like you are still within that time frame. But, you should check any spam folders/filters to make sure email from SageTV isn't getting blocked.

I had this exact problem last night. HD200 would not boot. It would show the "SageTV" splash logo and then the TV would go dark. I was connected via HDMI. I disconnected the power, disconnected the HDMI cable, connected the component cables instead, reconnected the power and it booted just fine.

Not sure why all of a sudden it stopped working via HDMI.

Me too...

I just hooked up my 3rd HD200 and same exact thing, it just shows the logo and then reboots. It won't even start in standalone mode. I initially had it hooked up via HDMI with LAN..but I did the same thing with my first 2 HD200's and there wasn't any problem.

Did any of you guys get this fixed or am I going to have to return this? I've already tried hooking up just a composite video cable with no HDMI and no LAN. Tried hold down delete for a reset with no luck. Right now I'm trying the firmware update from server, so far just blinking lights...

This happened to my new hd 200 to. What I did was hook it up to tv via component cable then update firmware on hd 200. There is an option in the settings to force HDMI. I selected this option, hooked up the hd 200 via hdmi and it works.

Thanks for the idea. I just tried hooking it up via component and same thing, just a splash logo loop. Tried it with and without the network cable. Submitting support ticket but if anyone has any other ideas.

Oh, and trying the firmware update from server gave me the same results too.

Are you saying that when using component and no hdmi hooked up you still only get the splash screen? you unplugged the unit and left it for 10 seconds before re plugging in?

Yes, I had it downstairs and I brought the unit upstairs to my bedroom tv and connected it with component video and it did the same thing, just loops to splash screen. No HDMI, no LAN either. It does the same thing with a network cable plugged in, just loops the splash screen. I think I got a lemon...

That is strange. I would have to agree with you, may be a lemon. Maybe someone else can chime in on that.

I've had problems in the past when I've changed from HDMI to composite and vice versa.

If it seems to get stuck I unplug from the network, connect via composite and then press the 'Video Out' button on the remote until something happens. I was quite worried the first few times I had problems but always seem to bring it back to life in the end.

If you say it loops, then that sounds like something a little more serious.
