How do I register arcsoft decoder as a directshow filter?

I'm testing my hdpvr for the first time and I can watch and record using arcsoft software that came with my hardware.

I can't get it to work on sagetv. I get audio/video for 1/5 to 3 seconds then a freeze. My guess was because it was using pdvd 8 decoders, as that's what was showing on sage.properties. I changed the videoframe/h264_video_decoder_filter to arcsoft video decoder, but got the same problems.

Then I read about checking the decoder properties using Directshow filter manager. I downloaded that, but to my surprise the Arcsoft Video Decoder is not available there!

How do I register this decoder as a directshow filter?

Thanks

Ok, I got it. I opened directshow filter manager, clicked on register new filter and select the file asvid.ax from the arcsoft folder.

After I done this, my hdpvr started working within sage! nice!

It's whatever comes bundled with HDPVR. Not sure which one it is.

Mike,

I don't own an HDPVR but it's almost certainly 2... version 3 has only been out for a few days. Also some postings on the Arcsoft forums indicate the V3 filters don't function as DShow any more. Not sure if that's a bug or a "feature"

There is a workaround posted here
Have not tried it yet, so not really an endorsement.

Even with that workaround (thanks for finding it, BTW) the Arcsoft Video Decoder won't work in Sage or GraphEdit. At least, I haven't figured out a way to get it to work. I'm glad I set a system restore point prior to installing TMT3!

First CyberLink/PowerDVD, now ArcSoft. Guess they're all getting tired of people "borrowing" their codecs.

I don't have a problem with that in their trial version, but once I've paid for it? How I use their codecs should be up to me, as long as I'm not releasing them to someone else.
