So what are your settings like? I the server setup a certain way? Documentation would be great.

The server doesn't affect client playback on the PC as long as the client can get to the file using the path stored on the server (either an UNC, or d: on the server = d: on the client).
make sure always_use_dshow_player=true is set in the client properties file on the client, if it is then what you see in GraphStudio will be what you get in Sage (unless you make changes to the properties file to override the default filters). |

OK, So I did that and it dows play. But not with sage. Why? and what do I need to change?

always_use_dshow_player=true. That is what is currently selected in the prop file.

I just had the same issue as you. See my thread:
http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=40894 My resolution was to install PowerDVD 7 and update to 2217 (that give you the 7.X H264 codec) As hard as I tried I could not get PowerDVD8 to work. Afterward streaming to my SageTVClient works great (as well as playing on the server of course) Last edited by sflamm; 04-02-2009 at 09:27 PM. |

Can you tell me your settings in the detailed setup menu? Maybe I have something wrong. I probably do.
I think there might be an issue with the server. I can't getr it to play back on the server. I get an error. WHat version on WHS are you running? Do the same filters have to be on the server as well? |

Is anyone willing to make up a short doument on how they set this up? This really ticking me off because it should be working.

I have a Win2003 Server that is my NAS. |

I can play cartoons from the server with no problems for my kids just not the .m2ts.
Thanks. I have the same settings as you and it just craws through just barely. When I pause the movie and wait for a little bit and then play it goes fine for a few seconds. Looks like maybe a buffer issue. Does anyone have any thoughts on that? |

I'd say it is either:
1. A network issue (running a gig-lan?) 2. A hardware issue (cpu/mem - H264 is more intensive) 3. Slow disk (may need to stripe, or to change cluster size to closer to 64KB) |

I just find it weird that the PCH AND PS3 can stream these with no problem the way whs is currently setup but SAGE cannot. So are you saying that in order for this to work it has to be 64k clusters? Is that how everyones is setup?

No 64KB is NOT a requirement at all. In fact, most modern OSes and Disk Seek algorithms obviate the need.
However, it will keep large files from becoming as fragmented. But then again, per the previous point, that isnt much of a problem anymore. You should look at the actual disk/network read speeds. Use a tool... Mine are in excess of 80-100MB/s sustained (burst is higher). But I use a raid configuration with gig controllers on my NAS. I would take a close look at what your bottleneck is... that was what I was suggesting. |

I have a Gigibit Lan an dno issues that I know of. my whs is 32bit and I'm trying to stream to my HTPC which is 64bit. Is there any know issues with that?
Also I have no issues streaming to my PS3. So I don't think it is a network issues but a Sage issue. Are there any know issues with streaming from a 32bit system to a 64bit? Also I noticed that on the WHS it is using IPv4 for local and the Vista systems are using IPv6. Any know issues with that? |

So what I know:
It's not the HDD. It's not a Network Issue. I can stream to PS3 and PCH with no issues. I can stream to a 3rd party player with no issues. I can play the .m2ts Blu-ray rip 20-30GB file from the hard drive of my HTPC with SageTv client with no issues. I cannot stream from the SageTv Server (HP mediaSmart Server) to my SageTv Client however. Looks like the issue is with the SageTv Server somehow. Any suggestions? |

What user ID. I didn't think that you had to set an ID for the client.

If you're accessing tv recordings, ripped dvds, photso, music, etc.from the WHS the client needs to be able to access the share where these are kept. If a client doesn't have permissions to a share how will it access the recording or the rip? You're on a home network and sharing files to PCs. WHen you start your PC it always logs in as someone. A single ID on a PC will just start up windows and go to a desktop. Multiple IDs on a PC and you need to login as a single ID. WHSis a server where you setup share (default shres are done at installation time) and so whatever ID is used at the PC client that ID needs to exist on the WHS with permissions to access those shares. (Unless you give the group "Everyone" all access to all the shares. Not very good security and you still need to confugre the WHS for this)

set the local group policy to include 'anonymous' in the everyone group. then allow 'everyone' to read/write the share (only that share so no real security issue).
