sageTv not able to stream HD content from WHS

So hear it is. I just built a HTPC (Core 2 Quad 2.8, 4GB DDR3, ATI 4870 Video card on Vista 64) which all is working properly but can not stream my ripped Blu-Rays from my HP MSS to my HTPC. I have ArcSoft installed and am using that as my MPeg2 decoder but when I try to play a movie I get a black screen for about a 5 minutes then the first frame of the movie which just freezes there.

By the way these files are .m2ts full size 20-30GB. Is there a file size limit? and if so what file format streams best?

I would check to make sure Sage is configured to use hardware acceleration.

Your client needs all the horsepower to playback any video but especially HD. Therefore you need a decent graphics card that does hardware acceleration for mpeg2, h.264, VC-1 and any other video standard out there that it can. (ATI HD3xxx, 4xxx series or nVidia 9600GT, or X2xx eries)Then you need a decoder (codec) that plays back mpeg 2 and h.264 and can also take advantage of that hardware acceleration. You also want it to play commercial DVDs. Players such as Cyberlink PowerDVD 7,8 or 9 or the Arcsoft Total Media Experienceo or Total Media Theater. The server is just streaming the media so you don't need as much horsepower as you do trying to play it. The HD Extenders do it all in hardware so it is easy for them to play back HD. Sage doesn't playback Blu-Ray on its own. The HD Extenders can playback a BR folder. But the PC clients can only play it with an external player.

I'm able to play my BD rips .m2ts files if they are on the HTPC with no problems at all. Trying to stream them from my WHS is where the problem lies. So if my hardware is more than adequate the problem lies with SageTv being able to stream. Is there a file size limit for streaming because I can stream other video files that are no more than 1.5 GB.

Angry Does No one stream HD movies

Guys, It seams that No one is really streaming HD movies. Why not? Thats the whole point of having a setup like this (server/ client). I can find a ton of info on streaming recorded content but not Archived HD video content (None recorded).

All I'm saying is lets open this thing up and start utilizing Sage to its full potential.

So has anyone successfully streamed full HD .m2ts 20+GB files from a SageTv server to a SageTv client?

I think the question on this forum should be "who doesn't stream movies?"

I'm not using Blu-ray but I know other people are ripping BR to WHS and able to play their rips. Your issue could be a network problem.

Over on this thread:

http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=40592

Scat claims:

Quote:
This is how I play my BluRay.ISO DVD in Sage
I use Clown_BD v0.41 http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=25818

Quote:
To sum it up in one sentence: Clown_BD will enable you to extract (on the fly) the main movie and language streams of your choice, resulting in either transport streams (for Media Jukebox), an ISO image (for PowerDVD) or even a burned BD disk (for standalone players).

After you open Clown_BD there are links in the program to download the programs
it needs: eac3to, tsMuxeR, and ImgBurn.

eac3to and tsMuxeR can be extracted to a folder of your choice, ImgBurn requires
to be installed as a normal Windows program.

There is a guide on how to use it at the same link, I just select the main movie
and have it create a BluRay.ISO, in the end all you have to do is rename the final
ISO file to your moviename.ISO Then if you want to change the Volume Label
for the moviename.ISO just open ImgBurn
then select: Tools > ISO > Change Volume Label, then select the litle folder at the
right side of: Please select a file....
Browse to the location of the final .ISO, select it
and you will see the Volume Label as it was set to the same final name
just change it to your movie name, click OK, exit ImgBurn.
Copy that ISO file to a folder that you store ISO in, go into Sage,
Select Setup > Refresh Imported Media, and now you may select the file
in the listed Videos and choose play and the BluRay.ISO will play in Sage
no mounting or external player
.
I tried this, placing the ISO in the folder that MyVideos scans, rescanned, and the ISO does not even show up...!

Is this information correct? Is there a way for SageTV to play an ISO directly without mounting it?

Well thanks for all the input. All I get is the arrow spinning then nothing. I have at least 60 BD rips .m2ts files that will not stream though. If I have them on my HTPC then they play fine. But not on my HP MSS. All of you that are streaming, are you using an extender or the sage client on a pc?

Also, then what are the setting that you are using to configure the client and/or server?

Some info on this would be much appreciated.

Sage client on a PC. You need to make sure that it's setup to use directshow and all the necessary filters are installed (PDVD or TMT) to make it go.

Get a copy of GraphStudio, drop the file in it from the server and see if it plays.
