2-bay USB/SATA HDD Enclosure w/sleep?
Looking to increase my HTPC external storage/backup. I currently have a Macally G-S350SU I use for backup, connected directly to my SageTV server.
This device has a sleep function which powers the drive down after 15min of inactivity. (backups are done at 3:00am). This sleep function is "independent" of OS or interface used. What I'm looking for is a 2-bay USB device which has a similar sleep function. It could be RAID, JBOD.............whatever? Seems to me it would reduce wear and tear on the drive and save energy. Any comments, alternatives would be appreciated. |

I'm curious whether or not the sleep function is a good thing. Seems to me the constant powering up and down would be detrimental to the drive.

Thats a good point!
OTOH ....the drive would be powered up for 30mins per day. In fact I'm thinking about every other day for backups. Frankly it surprises me that the "sleep" concept isn't more popular. Millions of external drives running 7 days a week, 24 hours a day!!! |
