What options do I have to change channels on my HD-PVR?

I recently picked up a HD-PVR and have most of it set up, I just can't figure out how to get Sage to change the channel on my cable box once I change the channel in Sage. I've searched all over the forums and there are tons of pages but it's very difficult to wade through posts that are 100s of pages long.

What is the easiest way to change channels using the HD-PVR? Is there a way to use the built-in Hauppauge ir blaster? I also have a USB-UIRT (using Eventghost) and a firewire connection. Appreciate the help.

USB-UIRT is support directly by Sage. That would be your easiest setup. Some folks who have complicated setups (multiple identical STBs) or stray IR, like the firewire.

I'd try the UIRT and go from there.

If you have firewire, that's the way to go. Once you set it up, it is rock solid. I've never missed a channel change in over 2yrs of use.

Aloha,
Mike

I believe the Hauppauge Blaster is supported. But my vote would be the USB-UIRT. It's supported natively by Sage, you just tell Sage you're tuning an external box and to use the UIRT. I snagged the IR file for my STB off the forum here, otherwise it will just have you teach it the STBs IR codes (if it doesn't have your STB listed).

That's what I'm leaning to do, but don't know where to go next. I've installed my Motorola STB's firewire drivers so that works fine, and I have the channelw.exe and channel.exe files, but how do I set it up so that Sage calls those .exe files when I change the channel?

I wrote a guide a couple of years ago. It is in the downloads section. It's a bit out of date, but it should still give you the info you need. I think there is some more up to date info in the firewire support thread.

Aloha,
Mike

You did indeed... your guide was amazingly helpful too. Thank you. I just worked through the steps to get EXEMultiTuner working and I'm all set now... thank you! (the whole "multi tuner" thing threw me off as I only have one tuner )

Mike's guide for those looking: http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/down...do=file&id=157
